[PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION]
A mere pre-teen whose physique still crawls from the recesses of his childhood, Kaede's matted, golden hair grow unbridled about his head. Underneath those locks hide deathly pale skin and emerald irises, the left housing a flickeringly distant pupil and the other a faded eye left almost useless without augmentation. Thus, it is rare to find, if ever, Kaede in public without his ocular device, of which he designed himself. Said device may mask the fact, sometimes, that Kaede's face is still babyish, a constant reminder of his still young age.

Dark circles, too, secret below his eyes from his terrible insomnia. By these factors alone, it becomes self-evident that Kaede is not the little boy he appears. Further down, the genin's figure is, quite frankly, an angular and a scrawny one. A simple four-foot-eleven, the boy is just entering the beginnings of puberty.

At a glance, something different ails the dear genin, something deeper than simple anatomy. He lacks true zeal and energy. Unlike the other kids, he has no spring in his step and no joy for the simple pleasures. Save for the care that he has of his creations and obvious ingenuity, the emotions that so empower his peers seem so devoid in his persona.

[CLOTHING]
The theme of clothing Kaede tends to wear is one much beyond his age, comprising of clothes that conceal his pale skin, save for his face. This assortment can range from cloaks to robes to other hooded attire. The prime factor that Kaede considers in his clothes is that it should be loose-fitting and functional. He would never restrict himself simply because fashion demanded it. On occasion he does have an elegant taste as well, but this taste is saved for more special engagements. Such that isn't worthy for the harsh environment of Rain. No, Kaede is a bottom-dweller, and despite his efforts he can become sloppy in his appearance.

His clothes can often to be dirtied or damped by the environment he works in, not that he will give it much care. This heralds many wrinkles, creases, and other general untidy care. Combined with his natural attraction to a darker palette of apparel, Kaede's gloomy theme seemingly melds perfectly with the equally gloomy Rain country. On a typical day, Kaede dons his emerald green robes which have large pockets on the inside for the various items he carries. Below these robes is a simple shirt and light scarf. This is his preferential clothing set-up, and he will often be wearing it if not something similar.

[PERSONALITY]
At first, one would look at Kaede and say he is one of the most exceptionally emotionless and boring shinobi that ever lived. However, they couldn't be farther from the truth. Underneath his walls, Kaede is a powerful maelstrom of anguish and conflicting emotions, constantly stirring and disfiguring him with each passing day. His condition is one that the outside world could only begin to understand, and he is often misunderstood and judged for it. Sadness, anger, depression. He has all of these things billowing around inside of him, and it hurts. In fact, after his traumatic experiences, his mind fragmented in order to cope with it.

It came in a simple hallucination created by his own subconscious. A black raven. Karasu, as Kaede has named it, appears at specific times to represent his own conscience, or moral reasoning. The raven is essentially his shoulder angel, while he himself has the shoulder devil. For example, in situations like one where Kaede has the ability to sacrifice something to help others without any self-benefit, the raven would appear perched nearby. The visual reminder is enough for Kaede to understand the moral urge that Karasu is trying to give him, and the raven itself isn't capable of doing anything a raven wouldn't normally be able do. Instead, the raven is simply there, and Kaede is given a choice whether to heed the raven or the natural man inside himself. Being a good-willed person, 8 times out of 10 Kaede will choose to make the morally good decision than not. Regardless, being a creation of his own mind, Karasu has become a normal part of Kaede's everyday life, and he has accustomed himself to the presence of it.

Socially, Kaede is can speak to others adequately, yet among them he feels the urge to hide his melancholy in his veil of nonchalance. It truly is a challenging dilemma anyone could even begin to deal with. Because of these things it is true that Kaede could, in fact, be in insane.

Of all activities, few give him real joy. He finds solace in one such activity: creation. Despite Kaede's affliction, he harbors great ingenuity in mechanical engineering and structural sciences. Oftentimes he will be found deep in the catacombs experimenting and messing with machinery and scraps to invent and create. Few his age can compare to the scope of his perspective, but then few children are cursed with the problems that Kaede deals with. Overall, the genin feels an obligation from Karasu to engage in his shinobi work to prevent what has happened to him from happening to others who may not survive.

[BIOGRAPHY]
Quote:
Tears.

Tears raining down upon him from the sky, the great celestials weeping of pure lament for the child of the night. Each drop an icy sting to his cheek. His insides trembled within him as he suddenly felt cold and utterly despaired, he was lost among the abyss, doomed to this aching agony. Blood spilled from his right eye, mixing with the very rain that pattered on the concrete. Whimpers escaped his lips, while his drenched hair lay disheveled against his beaten face. He could have been crying, but his tears were no different then that of the darkened blanket that lay set upon the heavens. He had nothing left. The pitter-patter was all that existed now, the never-ending pitter-patter that now sounded distorted and muffled to him. Before he had always tuned it out, a common background noise that was just there. Now it was all more real, a harsh reality. Kaede sniffled as a sharp pain shot through his his knees. He was kneeling, and his pants had ripped through. A mild scrap heralded small blotches of a diluted crimson.

All at once, the toils were too great. His vision stirred, and then everything went black.

Birthed into the depths of Sector Two, Kaede entered a small, yet happy family. Despite their terrible living circumstances, both his father and mother worked hard to support their newborn. Even still, the fledgling Fukunara learned at a very young age to carry his own weight, a simple appreciation of hard work ingrained into his childhood mind. The child soon became fascinated with the machinery that his father would bring home with him and work on. Once he was old enough, he began to help his father in his work, which ranged from simple sewage and pipe maintenance to the windmill generator engines. Even still, his parent envisioned a better life for their son, a more comfortable life than the harsh conditions of Sector Two. So, they did the only thing they could: enrolled him into the shinobi academy. Both parents had to take longer hours to allow him to be properly equipped, but they did it out of love for their son that he may be happier.

Days became weeks, and things fell into a simple routine. Kaede studied hard, and his parents worked hard. They survived, and they were happy.

One might ask, how could such a family not have a happy ending?

Quote:
A thump against his chest, Kaede rushed throughout the dimly lit Sector Two as barbarian yells echoed behind them. Heavy breaths of air rushed to and from his lungs, his heartbeat resounding within his ears mirrored by his mother's own. "Leave no witnesses!" The faint yell sounded. Kaede's fear piqued as adrenaline rushed throughout him. Now he knew nothing but flight, only to run from danger as far as he could. His training, his education, they never taught him how to handle this. He couldn't fight. They were stronger. He couldn't fight.

He couldn't fight to save his father's life.

He could hear them getting closer, and frightened gasps escaped his lips as he scrounged about the knuckled pathways to find escape. Then his face impacted upon the ground-up rocks that made up the path. He had been shoved, his legs clipped. The man rested his foot on Kaede's back, the sheer weight alone keeping him to pinned.

"Please," he weakly pleaded as gravel began to cut into his cheek. It was a mercy plea, a desperate cry of grief. He knew it was pointless. Yet he had to say it. He couldn't even see his captors, simply the ground around him and the terribly crude path that had been forged upon the backbones of the poor.

With a huge crunch of shingled debris, he watched his mother fall beside him in a loud cry of pain. He closed his eyes.

"No. Make him watch."

Thick fingers forced his eyelids open in the direction of his mother.

And she screamed.
It happened all at once. The Yondaime had disappeared, and a political outcry had burst upon the Hidden Rain village. Some would say that for that moment, Rain may perhaps have been brought to her knees. In actuality, it was farther from the truth. A new heir had been chosen, the Yondaime's daughter Ayame. But this news had not spread to the extent of Sector Two. Later that same month, a fateful event took place in the Fukunara home.

Fukunara Dai was found dead in his apartment with a knife protruding from his head, and not much farther from that lay his wife, Fukunara Ai, who was stabbed seventeen times before she bled out. The only survivor and witness was Kaede himself, who was found with a cut starting from his forehead and across his eye, and with various broken bones and bruises. Investigators tried to get an account from him, but every time Kaede would never speak of the events that took place. He wouldn't even mention what might've happened. Similar killings had been happening in the area, too, causing things to escalate down in Sector Two. Rain shinobi were sent to investigate the case.

Two days later, two men was apprehended for the serial killings of various families, including the Fukunaras. It was a huge success, and the case was closed. They had caught the culprits.

Quote:
"Good news, kid."

Kaede turned bloodshot eyes towards the man across the desk. Cigarette smoke wafted near him as he listened to what the man had to say. "We caught the guys who killed your parents!"

He tossed the newspaper, and the academy student caught it. Kaede looked down at the paper, a large heading on the front page that read SERIAL KILLER DUO CAUGHT! The article had a picture on it of two middle-aged men.

"C'mon, kid, you should smile, we got him! He's getting the death sentence for this!"

Kaede remembered the face of the men who did this. He remembered both their faces, as clear as day. Their features lay burned in his mind, as timeless as the rain itself.

And this was not them.
He was all alone.

Until one day, Kaede woke up with less of a burden upon his heart. A raven watched over him, appearing at times always to persuade him to do good, though despite never being able to speak. Kaede continued his studies vigorously to fulfill his parents' dream. Karasu kept him going in his studies and urged him to strive towards the career that would prevent deaths like his parents'. Kaede listened to the raven only because it was shadowed by his desire to never feel so helpless again. With his conscience split from, Kaede changed into a much more methodical and calculating shinobi, such that fueled his excellence into the genin exams. Passing with flying colors, Kaede was sent headfirst into geninhood.

A year later he still stands among his peers, masked and hidden among them. He was just background noise, blocked out. He was seen, but he was never watched. He was heard, never listened to. He was consistent, and great, but that was an accepted fact among them. He was simply just there, an element no one ever paid heed to. Just like the rain, he was crying inside everyday. And also like the rain, people accepted it.

[OTHER INFO]
• After becoming a shinobi, Kaede was offered much better housing in Sector Three, but he denied their offer. He still lives in Sector Two to this day.

• Kaede still remembers the faces that soiled his family, the image engraved in his mind like a scar that just won't fade.

First off, just let me start off by saying... 'Oooh! Pretty!'

I can tell that you put a lot of time into at least making the character sheet look pleasing to the eye and organized. Kudos because it makes someone want to read it, but it is also a bit distracting. Merdle would probably tell you to take all the formatting out, but this is me, and with all that aside... the character is very well written. There are a couple of minor problems though. The height in the physical description doesn't match the dossier. Kaede listened the raven, change it to 'to the raven'.

Stats and jutsu check out. I dislike puppets, but looked over the item and everything seems fine there.

I should withhold approval because bio is like, damn and it made me sniffle but the character is just too awesome.

Thanks a lot, Sinn. Edited out those two things.

I guess we'll see how this goes.

Aight, so I take the blame for everyone doing funky character sheets (leave me alone Kana). I'll follow up with a half approval and leave with three things
  1. Is there anything even going on in Rain? (lol)
  2. This would make a better Sand Character (C'mon, exclusive puppetry list man, lol)
  3. But really, the format of the character sheet is fine, but does everything need to be centered? I do a lot of funky stuff with my character sheets as well, but I'm a bit more conscious with what I center - that isn't easy on the eyes my friend. Everything else is dope, it's fresh, it's great, except the things like
everything from the physical description and down being center.
    But the choice is yours

1. I don't even know.
2. That might be true. But I've already got a Sand character!
3. I know, it makes me unsure, too. But after I center the name and the picture, I look that the basic information, and I think CRAP, they aren't aligned so it's ugly/harder to read. So I ended up centering everything. Do you think I'd have better luck if I indented it, like I did with this character?

EDIT: Uncentered the large paragraphs of text, hopefully it looks better (?)

Does anything even go on in Sand?

You can take one point from Willpower or Intelligence (and put it in Tactics) and still keep the tech, I think.

Everything seems mostly okay, timeline things pretty well in order. Good character.

GM Approved. There's not much, but have at it.
