Default [Konohagakure no Sato, Genin] Hyuuga Yuu

What was before.

Name: Hyuuga Yuu
Age: Twelve
Sex: Male
Height: 5'

Country/Village: Hi no Kuni / Konohagakure no Sato [Information]
Rank: Genin
Division: - - -

Physical Description:

Due to the regal nature of the boy's heritage, even the most bold of the girls from his year wouldn't admit it, but Hyuuga Yuu is not a handsome man. He might become one, in time, but for his twelfth year of life, there's only one honest description of the boy's face: cute. The soft, warm skin of his cheeks angles neatly into a chin that's slowly growing in prominence on his face, but the happy king of his visage is his small nose and his clever, sly smile on his lips. Little ears poke out from carefully groomed hair and occasionally turn red from the beating sun above—leaving this child somewhat of a poster of Konoha youth. Adorable is easily the term you'd want to use, but you simply cannot.

For Hyuuga Yuu is defined almost entirely by his posture and movement. Even in the freeze-frame picture on his identification papers, even on the clever pseudo-3D artwork on is Ninja Info card, tucked away in classified information, even from the way the light catches his hair through the window on a lazy Autumn day, Hyuuga Yuu is almost intimidating. Beyond his cute face and expression, there is a cold awe in his form. His strong, broad shoulders would make it difficult to classify his androgynous beauty as 'female', and the muscles in his chest and stomach go on to define this near-fae as a boy. His arms look almost undefined until he puts them in motion, where his muscles seem reverent to his ivory skin before rippling into action, flexing and bulging for action. His legs, the most defined portion of his young body in his training, are attractive and unassuming for one moment, and ready to push the Earth away with a bounding jump in the next. Thanks to his years of training in Jyuuken, Yuu manages to combine elements of classical beauty and the frightening design of an experienced martial artist. This inhuman beauty is punctuated by his most dramatic of traits: the screaming tells of his bloodline.

Yuu's long, black hair is the defining mark of pride amongst the male warriors of his family. A Hyuuga who can wear his hair long and trailing behind the dancing movements of his taijutsu without posing the risk of an opponent grappling it is a true master of the form. It stands to reason that even before his mastery of Jyuuken, a Hyuuga is already growing out his hair. Proud Yuu has surpassed the shoulder line and has hair that falls deep into his shoulder blades, shining with luster and smooth to the touch. It's thickness is something of an oddity in his family, but by no means the mark of infidelity or bad genetics: It just gives him a more angular and defined silhouette amongst others.

While overall, the boy seems nothing more than an attractive young man with a focus on taijutsu, the most obvious trait on his form is something that makes him legendary, even outside the walls of his village and the political boundaries of his country. His milky white eyes (irises and all) are completely alien, flickering the sun's reflection in a haunting beauty. The first thought might be 'blindness', but when they focus on an individual, it feels as though every mental block is being melted away and every secret is bubbling to the focus—every inadequate flaw becomes apparent before the eyes of the young nobleman. The tell of the Byakugan makes the young boy scream out his heritage in his simple, quiet gaze—a gravity beyond expectations.

Clothing:

It's a world of gray, and Yuu's monochromatic fashion matches both the form and function of a noble shinobi. At his lowest outer layer is the traditional garb of a shinobi that most anyone in the village would feel naked without—a black, easily flowing body suit with pockets of mesh that allows quick movement and rudimentary camouflage in the darkness. Above this, Yuu favors a lighter gray or white shirt (typically long sleeved) with a small opening at the collar to allow wind flow and prevent overheating. Above this, he wears a long duster overcoat that proudly proclaims his clan heritage with a fire country symbol on both arms. White gloves and black open-toed sandals complete the package, with his headband covering his forehead in all it's shining glory.

But it often comes to a point where the Genin is not expected to be prepared for combat, and he adopts his casual clothing for walking the streets of Konoha. Here, the finest of fabrics make up his clothing, a simple white kimono with an astronomical cost. It's a simple, almost sexy affair with an opened chest (which is typically exposed) and long sleeves to hide his hands, a simple gesture from the boy to note he is not interested in combat. In this set up, he normally folds his off-hand, the right, into the coat of his clothing, much like a samurai might hand his sword to make it difficult to access. It's a sign of peace keeping.

Somewhat rarely, the Hyuuga is found in far more simple clothing: Black pants and a gray top. While the overall cost of materials is still very high, it's this clothing that Yuu feels the most comfortable going out to fish in, or to handle the dirtier jobs a Genin may be stuck with. While dressed this casually, his hair is normally skilfully pinned up against his head, giving him a traditional top-knot, and his headband is slung around his arm. It's interesting that dressed like this, he is far more accessible to his peers and seems to lose the airs of the family.

Personality:

The elite sense of his family, the absolute dedication to being on top, the insane desire to remain 'pure', at least in his parent's eyes, absolutely rends the poor boy for a loop. Stress gets the better of him, and he takes it out on his studies. To study hard and to work hard means he's doing what his parents and the rest of the family expects, and most of the time he gets words of praise at the end of a day, so it's worth hitting the books hard and practicing the various aspects of the clan's taijutsu to the best of his ability. At school and in the days he's free to take some time off, he finds a bit of safety in the words of his friends, however few are actually sincere, and enjoys the typical 'young' boy things. In his days at the Academy, he had fun 'playing' ninja, and acting out favorite pairings of some of the tougher Academy Sensei that the children studied under, but he would never admit that to his parents. For Yuu, all he wants his parents to know is how well he is doing and how he would fair in a fight.

Manners, sophistication, and knowing that a child's place is doing whatever his parents command, remaining silent unless spoken too, and never to show emotion regardless of the situation at hand. His mantra, "Hold your tongue." For instance, he would never cry out in protest if told to do extra chores, nor would he offer a comment at a discussion he overheard. Never would he offer a suggestion to anyone older than him on the 'way things should be done'. Some might call him the ideal child, always obedient and absolutely meticulous in every task he undertook. Chores never had to be done twice, homework always completed, he always dressed properly for formal occasions, and his eyes never focused on anything but your own, if spoken to, and to his feet, if not spoken to. This is what his parents expected of him during his Academy days.

As a Genin, he's allowed a bit more freedom. His headband, marking his coming of age, also marked the beginning of his adulthood amongst his family. He still finds himself reserved, but he is no longer allowed the safety in looking at the floor. His eyes look straight ahead, and directly at points of attention. In some way, this is related to his parents wanting him to show that he had the perception, to the absolute smallest detail, that his clan held so high. As the only child, the entire weight of holding his parent's respect in the clan fell on his shoulders, and he knows it. As he moves, talks, and trains, the constant thought in his head is that he has to do the best he can at all times, work as hard as he can, and continue to fight on as hard as he can, regardless of the factors weighing against him. To tell his parents he had failed in whatever small detail would mean that his entire attempt had been failed.

Yuu is a genius, both in the academic sense and the shinobi sense, but he's too clouded by his worry over his reputation to realize it, but then again, it blankets his actions with a constant double-check to make sure everything is going to plan. He's one of the most kind-hearted people one could possibly hope to meet in Konoha, but his natural reserve and dedicated speech strike most as either shyness, or more commonly, a dignified silence. People, just by being around him, expect more from him socially then is actually there. Although he has had plenty of close friends to play with, he's never had a friend that he felt comfortable talking with.

His new found responsibility and freedom of being a Genin has granted one important factor to his personality: A respect for the community at large. Understanding the mission structure and the concept behind the hidden village more fully, he's able to hold deep respect for every member of the village, regardless of purity of blood or morals. To be a 'shinobi', to Yuu, means to be part of a beautiful machine, and he loves every working part of it. This grants him a level of selflessness that has yet to truly manifest, but to throw down his life for a comrade would be more than satisfactory for his record of right-and-wrong, and more than likely to satisfy his parents as the proper end to his career.

This love and respect for his fellow shinobi puts Yuu at an oddly mature point in his young years, understanding that for anyone to truly effect the world, they have to effect as many people in the world as possible. A strong desire in his heart is to help people, to make people smile, and to fix problems. Payment and reward of reputation is not his goal, nor is it prime on his list--his goal is to help make his Konoha as great as possible.

Nindo; "Way of the Ninja": For my family, for my Konoha, I'll do anything. I'll push myself to the limits for their sake. I'll do whatever it takes to prove to the world that I am worth my name and my place in it.

Eerie Ears
The user has a strange talent for hearing. They are capable of remembering sounds almost perfectly, and are capable of filtering out the ones that matter from those that don’t. In a crowded room they could focus their ears and eavesdrop on a whispered conversation, or listen for the footsteps of a stalker that they know is there. They must actively focus to make this work, and so it is rarely useful if they are caught by surprise.

Biography:

From the personal files of Hyuuga Yuu...

"It's hard," I answered, almost dreamily, at the question of 'what's it like'?

What is it like, being me? Being a Hyuuga, I mean. Being who I am. Putting it into words might take some time, but it's probably the best, so I'm going to write in you, this secret little scroll, the night before Dad has me give a private demonstration in my taijutsu skill for some of my cousins. It's always like that, you know. Showing me off, I mean...making me fight in rings with people of 'lesser' purity. I don't like it to much.

The traditionalism in my close family--Mom and Dad--is kinda strange. We're what some people call 'direct descendants' of the Main Branch. It means my blood is supposedly more pure than some of the others in my family. I don't understand it much, but Mom always promises me that I will when I'm older. I don't know if I want to know much about a world where someone is in a lesser position based on their parentage, but all in due time.

My parents treated me like most other kids talk about, for a while. Dad taught me how to fish in the streams, Mom taught me about calligraphy and they both made sure my standard dialect was proper. It was a nice time, before they saw me as a shinobi. Then, one day, Dad told me he was going to teach me all about chakra. A good Hyuuga, he told me, started this kind of thing as early as possible. So, I did it.

It's really easy, I don't really understand what there was to learn. Dad laughed when I told him, and he said it was just because we Hyuuga 'have it in our genes'. A true shinobi clan.

That's when it got hard, though. Hyuuga can do a lot with chakra other people in Konoha can't, I think, so we take advantage of it and do our best to show it off so that we're respected. It's a simple idea if you think about it, our taijutsu style...you just shoot out chakra at the exact right moments in the right amounts and then it doesn't matter how hard you hit, as long as you hit the right points. It's a lot harder than that, though.

For one, using chakra burns up my energy, so I can't do it for too long without getting exhausted. For an other, the amount of control to pull it off is insane. For the final point, I have to use my eyes constantly! You actually have to be able to see the points where the opponent's chakra is flowing and...ah, well, I don't know why I'm telling myself this. Self-pity, maybe?

Anyway, my Jyuuken training started soon after that, and then that was all I was to my Dad. A student. I trained under him for as long as a day would allow, during the week. On saturday, it was the domestic stuff I had to learn from Mom, and then on Sundays, I was given the day off. It was rough, but it was putting be bounds ahead of other kids. It wasn't until I started the Academy that I understood why...as soon as people saw me, they expected so much from me. It was rough.

I remember crying from the stress, not being able to pinpoint things or throw shuriken all that well or even manage to transform into the sensei. So, Dad would keep pushing me. On and on, harder and harder...and I succeeded. I climbed to the top of the class, and I felt really guilty about it. I mean, I was working hard, but so was everyone else. Top of my class meant nothing to me, and it did to them.

But, I lie. It meant everything to me. My parents, everything I do, they watch. I have to be great for them. I have to work hard for them. I have to show what I can do at all points, without being arrogant. I mean, I'm not that strong...but I get by.

The day I got my headband, my Dad smiled and asked me to go fishing with him, like old times. We had poles and bait and stuff, but we just sat on the edge of the stream, poles forgotten, and he told me how proud he was of me. Told me that, to Mom and him, being great was important to them, but that I was just as important. That it was good that I worked so hard for the family, but they wanted me to work hard for them, too. That was really important for me to know. So, I mean, when I work hard, it's for all of us. That's what we are, really.

Being a Hyuuga just means being part of a family. But, it is hard. 'cause everyone wants everyone to be the best they can be. Everyone wants to be on top. The family is this big deal to so many people that they really just work hard at it. They get worked up about how far back they can trace their roots, and how 'pure' they are. My family can go all the way back. 'Main Branch'. I don't understand it.

What I do understand is that being a Genin is strange. It's like, all of a sudden, my parents stopped acting like teachers and started acting like parents again, but at the same time, they look at me as a shinobi instead of a child. So I got to keep working hard, got to keep giving it my all. I have to climb to the top and show everyone, 'cause I want them to look at me and say that I did a good job, again.

Ah, but enough on that! I can't pretend life is all that tough just because my parents grind on me a lot. My sensei at school absolutely was fantastic. He took care of me a lot, treated me to food, and simply filled in that 'dad' role my actual Dad was passing up on, so I didn't really miss out on much. I'm excited...being a shinobi is going to be fun. Fighting my cousins is fun, yeah, but fighting against non-Hyuuga is always the best. I know what to expect from my family, but I never know what to expect from all these other people in Konoha.

I better wrap this up. Dinner's up, and it's my favorite-- goolagong on rice.

From a recent self-assessment during a mission report...

The climate of Konohagakure no Sato is changing, both seasonally and politically. The change of pace in the ruling government comes to no surprise, with the Hokage suddenly disappearing. The betrayal of his honored guard, the ANBU, came as a complete surprise, however—especially with my dear cousin Hyuuga Kaito amongst their ranks. Finally, I believe that I myself am changing more than I ever was before. This sudden massive flux of everything I seemed to know as fact in the last few months is a horrible burden on my heart...but part of being a shinobi is being adaptable, especially to things such as this. I just hope that I'll handle it all appropriately.

The fall of Yukigakure has always been a bitter taste in my mouth, but as my father was a supporter of the war effort, I cannot help but feel that at least part of it was mandatory. Konoha has always been an example of the best shinobi-kind has to offer, and it's testament when we get mission offers from out of country. The attack on Snow, then shocked me deeply, shifting my entire worldview. For my fellow countrymen to make such attack meant we were more than a defensive force, more than a happy village making out a living on ages-old tradition. It solidified to me that we are, indeed, shinobi. Killers. Murderers. As a twelve year old Genin, I guess I shouldn't be so shocked by this. However, I almost regret my headband when I think about it. I'm sure these feelings will pass in time. I'm told it's a rather common stage in any young shinobi's life. However, in the turmoil, I almost didn't realize we had lost our Hokage...not that I ever knew the man. I've heard tales of a Konoha in the past, were nearly every shinobi had some personal connection with their leader, which was not the case of the Konoha I grew up in. The addition of the Council of Elders seemed to be a surprise to some of the others in my year, but haven't the Hyuuga always been an important part of the political side of Konoha? The Council is much of the same, although I'm glad to see other shinobi families have made an appearance. My father, on the other hand, uses words such as 'disgrace' and 'dirty politics'. I'm too young to really understand.

Hyuuga Kaito's disappearance was not a family decision, and despite my training with him just before his departure, I know nothing of his reasons. Much like his Nankan's defense, during our spars, I could not get a passing blow towards his mind. I'm too young and inexperienced for such an intimate combat, and no matter how much my family or the KSPD or any other groups contact me, I cannot offer anymore than this: If a fellow clansmen has chosen to leave the village, his intentions must have once been pure. If perverted, it's only from the undying Will of Fire that burns in his judgment. I know it sounds familiar—I'm just repeated what my father told me to say. Personally, I had always aspired to be ANBU. Kaito was a great role model in my life, and I knew no evil in his heart. However, if I am made to consider him an enemy, than an enemy he shall become. Leaving the village, betraying Konoha, is enough to sever his ties to this family.

As for myself, I feel that my feelings towards being a shinobi is changing. At first, I saw it as a vehicle to earn status in my family and respect amongst my peers, which was always a selfish goal. With recent events, however, I see how important the shinobi military force is to this village—to this country. This way of life is the only way of life I have ever known, and all my training has been to perfect my body so that I might perfect this way of life—I'll leave the politics to the Council. I'll leave the judgment, castigation, and justice to the law force. I'll leave my family's great shame in Kaito's abandonment of the village to the eldermen. As for me, I'll dedicate myself to my mission and my nindo-- For my family, for my Konoha, I'll do anything. I'll push myself to the limits for their sake. I'll do whatever it takes to prove to the world that I am worth my name and my place in it.

I don't believe Yuu has enough power for this one, unless you'd like to reshuffle your numbers a bit.

I like the bit about Hyuuga Kaito that you've added there. I haven't figured out how I'd like to address that issue with my own character's bio. Hehe. Well done.

Goolagong is still there. That makes me smile.

Numbers reshuffled a bit. Added a new secondary Archetype (Offensive Healer) and moved some jutsu around, since I was eager to use all seven allotted to me. The Diagnosis technique doesn't sound like anything the Byakugan can't already do, but I'll fork it over to fluff.

Thank you. The thread with Kaito and Yuu was a powerful one for the Genin, so I wanted to stress Yuu's loyalty to the family comes before his more personal bonds. Then again, I hope it also was made apparent it was a decision he was struggling with.

I was tempted to use it for a second time, but I couldn't find an easy spot to put it in without forcing it, since I've defined it as a food. I think I might use it as a clean expletive, hahah.

Medical jutsu, huh? I'll admit that I've entertained the idea myself. A Hyuuga would make an insanely accurate doctor. Heh.

Anyway, all appears to be in order as far as I can tell. On behalf of a GM on the run, enjoy a Clan GM/Leaf GM approval. Welcome back and all that.

I feel obligated to bump weekly because it feels like that shows a continued interest in getting this character through registry.

But, there are 16 characters (total) in the registry. Only six of those are in Clan Registry. Bumping in a registry this small feels kinda weird, so this will be my final bump (unless the clan registry is suddenly swamped).

Yes, I'm interested in this character. But I don't think bumping him constantly is required.

Might be best to do it anyway, you see. Most people don't even peek at clan registry, and bumping gets you on their radar since there's a front page to all this.

Approved.

Oh, pick me.

Oh, oh. Baby, pick me.

I've got the the Clan and Country GM approvals, and I've got one mod approval. That puts me at 1.5/3.

C'mon, EoE! You can do it!
