While the Captain and Ninsen-san took off like bullets as soon as the dealer had announced the break, Nagisa instead remained seated, nervously chain smoking cigarette after cigarette. Her mind began to race through the endless possibilities of just why another shinobi had joined her at the table, and had sat next to her no less. Was he a hunter, out for her head? Did he have a mission of his own? Perhaps that was why he had been so eager to depart with Ninsen-san. Life on the lam had made her inherently suspicious, but as she took a long drag from her third cigarette during the break, reason slowly began to push the panic aside.

Calm down, Nagisa…maybe he’s just here to make an extra buck. I mean, hell, you’re still here.

“Hmph, again?” Her thoughts were interrupted by Kagawa’s annoyed grunt. He motioned towards Ninsen’s seat while staring at the dealer who could do nothing but let out an exasperated sigh. “Listen, if…when she doesn’t come back, let’s cut the bullshit and just throw her money in okay? I don’t wanna waste time waiting around when we know she’s done for the evening.”

“W-what do you mean throw her money in?” Nagisa’s ears certainly perked up at that one.

“Rules of the tournament, kid. If you leave and don’t come back, your money gets thrown into the pot in the next hand.” He crunched another piece of ice as he gestured towards the woman’s empty seat. “And Ninsen-san over here has a wonderful habit of running off in the middle of the game to take care of…other desires, if you catch my drift. Looks like she’s done pretty well for herself though, that’ll be a hell of a pot.”

Nagisa’s eyes drifted towards the stack of chips that rested in front of Ninsen’s empty seat. Kagawa chuckled as he noticed her hungry gaze, crunching another ice cube as he muttered something about first-timers and greed. The man was right; Ninsen had done quite well for herself this tournament. Sure, Nagisa already had a guaranteed paycheck, but her employer did say she could keep her tournament winnings…

Come on Nagisa, you don’t want to get involved…

But that’s a lot of money…

You’re already getting paid for this…

Buuuuuuuuuut that’s a LOT of money!

Her internal conflict persisted for several more minutes until the Captain plopped down in his seat next to her. Worse yet, it appeared that Ninsen-san was not returning. While the other men at the table seemed to chalk it up to her having her fill, Nagisa couldn’t help but wonder if there were a more…sinister reason for her disappearance.

She cursed silently; her avarice had cost her an easy opportunity to escape. It appeared she was committed now. She resolved herself to remaining vigilant, maintaining a line of sight and keeping tabs on whatever the Captain was doing. She was at a disadvantage with her guitar, the catalyst for her more powerful techniques, resting quarantined behind the front desk. Hopefully, she would have enough firepower to shoot her way out if shit really hit the fan.

She nearly jumped out of her seat when the man stood, announcing his intention to grab another beverage. Their eyes met, and she gave a sheepish grin before putting out her last cigarette. He strolled off to grab himself and Kagawa a drink as Nagisa let out a sigh of relief before putting out her final smoke.

Calm down…we can get through this…and then, we celebrate!

At least, Nagisa hoped it would be that easy.

“That’s a big chunk of ice you got there Captain,” Kagawa said as Sato returned.

“Nope, that’s a big chunk of ice /you/ got there friend,” Sato said putting extra emphasis on the ‘you’ as he handed the glass to the man. “I asked them for the biggest piece they had. Figured it’d last you a little while, just long enough for us to get through these next couple of rounds. Might want to let it melt a little bit first though.” The piece was pretty big, rectangular to boot. Kagawa wasn’t going to be fitting it inside his mouth anytime soon. Sato wanted to smirk at how easy the plan came together

The plan to shut the man up. The constant ice chewing was annoying as all get out, and if Sato heard anymore he was going to kill someone!

The next hand started, and Emi still seemed to be ignoring him. She had been oddly silent since she called for the break, uncharacteristically so. Sato took a breath and closed his eyes. So, she had figured him out at last, huh? He had no one to blame but himself really, he had gotten a bit sloppy with his tricks on that last hand. Honda’s reaction and forcefulness had been unexpected, he had been caught on the backburner. That was never good for a shinobi to be, especially a snow-nin. So maybe his illusion had been a bit sloppy, but it was no less sloppy than the one she had cast earlier!

Well then, if Emi wanted to start something. Sato opened his eyes and gave Emi a smile. He’d just have to make her regret it now wouldn’t he?

The nonsensical banter concerning Kagawa's chunk of ice barely registered on Nagisa's mind as the dealer dealt out the cards to the three individuals that were still standing in the contest. In the center the remainder Ninsen-san's chips lay in sizable stacks arranged by the dealer. Aside from her 'contribution' to the tournament, the dealer had also raised the blinds making this quite the important hand. Whoever emerged the victor from this particular round would surely have an advantage for the remainder of the game, and would likely have an easy road to victory and the large sum of cash that accompanied such an achievement. Whether it was the numerous drinks she had consumed or just her inherent avarice, it didn't matter to the former Oto-nin.

Nagisa would emerge as that victor.

Unfortunately, it appeared that there were a few obstacles in her way. Kagawa certainly had skill, if his place in the top three was any indication. He would be a force to be reckoned with just based on his talent at poker alone. But her true concern was clearly the man seated next to her, and the genjutsu techniques he had put on display. If the man was willing to utilize illusions and deception to get ahead, then Nagisa would just have to follow suit.

She peeked at her cards, smiling internally at the pair of Aces lying face down before her. What luck; to be dealt such an enormously strong hand at such a crucial moment! Statistics gave her an extremely high chance of victory, and she could certainly take the easy win but...

I mean...it would be a waste to slow play this out. Alright Sir shinobi, let's have some fun.

As the move came around to her, she took in a deep breath before letting out a sigh. It seemed like an innocuous gesture, but in reality Nagisa took that moment to gather chakra in her vocal chords before glancing over towards the Captain.

"Captain, that's already quite the sizeable pot. But why don't we make this a little bit sweeter, eh? I'll raise. Half my chips. I hope you'll follow suit."

She gave a slight wink to the man before taking another sip from her drink. If the man wanted to make this a battle, so be it. Nagisa was certainly ready to fight back.

Sato closed his eyes and leaned into Emi’s voice. He did have to give it to the woman, she had a lovely voice, but… there was a little something more in that then just her voice now wasn’t there?

Was Emi finally making her move? Sato could feel the telltale signs of mental manipulation, even if only faintly they were still there. How could he let her just get away with this? Should he retaliate? The thought crossed his mind before being discarded, she was right after all.

It was a pretty sweet pot, why not make it sweeter? And, it was time to speed the game up a bit now, wasn’t it? Yeah, that was the right decision, he felt confident in it. As everyone knew, a little bit of confidence goes a long way.

The ability to change the face of your cards goes a lot longer still.

He gave Emi a grin full of teeth, looked her in the eye, and then went all in. "You're right sweetie, why not make the pot all the more sweeter?" Kagawa watched silently as he folded his cards. The dealer rolled over three cards, one of them was an Ace, the other a Three of Spades, and the final a Jack of Hearts.

He could work with this, Sato thought while looking Emi in the eye.

Well...that was unexpected.

Though Nagisa had suggested that the Captain merely push in enough chips to match her bet, the man instead brashly chose to gamble his entire stack on this single hand. Perhaps she had laid the illusion on a little too thick? Or maybe the Captain was really just that confident in his hand? Or, worse yet, perhaps the Captain had resisted her illusion and was playing games of his own. Nagisa mulled the multitude of options over in her head, trying to determine ever possible outcome before ultimately settling on one, final determination.

It. Didn't. Matter.

For no matter what cards the Captain possessed or what tricks he was willing to pull, Nagisa was confident she would emerge the victor. As Kagawa folded and the dealer laid the first three cards on the table, her victory was almost assured. Ace, Three, Jack. An excellent flop, considering the powerful pair of Aces she currently held in her hand. Her hand was nigh unbeatable; the chances of another card emerging that could assist the Captain to victory were slim to none. The dealer flipped over another card revealing...

The final Ace, the Ace of diamonds.

Victory was all but guaranteed. Nagisa could barely contain the smile on her face as the dealer dealt the final card, an eight of diamonds. That was it, game over. Nagisa could not even wait for the dealer as she flipped her cards over onto the table, revealing the four aces she had assembled. She grinned as she looked down at her hand, then back up the opponent she had bested. While she was aware that there was still one skilled individual left at the table for her to beat, she couldn't help but offer one final, parting shot to the shinobi she had just vanquished.

"Well well Captain. Looks like your beginner's luck's finally run out huh? Wanna show the class just what made you feel so confident?"

He closed his eyes as she revealed her hand. A small laugh escaped his lips as he leaned back into his chair, only slightly defeated. He closed his eyes, he could hear Kagawa’s chortling, he could see dealer’s small smile, and he could taste the self satisfied look on Emi’s face.

Well, he couldn’t blame her. He’d let himself be played. Got overconfident. Hard not to when things were just going so well for him. He opened his eyes and turned to smile at Emi. “How about we don’t and say we did?” he asked sliding his cards face down. What good would it have done the table to see the fifth ace he had conjured up? “So I guess this makes me…” he trailed off.

“Eliminated,” the dealer finished. “Yes sir, it was a good game.”

“It was now wasn’t it?” He slid his chair out, relaxed as one who just lost heavy could be. He took his heavy coat from the back of the chair and slid his arms into to the sleeves. Sato turned to leave before pausing midstep step. He turned back to the table where the dealer was shuffling cards. “You know, there was just one thing I wanted to know.” He said quickly, taking his seat again.

I told you what I did. We know what Emi does. Same for Ninsen, Honda, and the others. But I never found out what you did Kagawa.” The man looked a tad surprised.

“Ah, well, I work in… Finance.”

“Oh? Like a bank?”

Kagawa seemed to find the idea amusing. “I suppose you could say so.” He took a drink from his glass, before popping now slightly smaller chunk of ice into his mouth. He cracked it with a crunch.

“See, that’s kind of funny, because that’s not what I heard~” The words came out in a tune. “See, I recently met this girl. Said her dad owned a small buisness and needed a little bit of money.”

The ice chewing trailed off.

“The bank wouldn’t lend him anymore, so he went to another… well let’s just say less reputable ‘bank’. They gave him the money, but made him sign a little paper promising to pay it all back. Well, that’s what they told him anyway. Long story short he signed away his business and most of his money.” Kagawa’s face was set in stone. “Now, I don’t really care, the girl’s dad was an idiot for doing this. But the girl, well she couldn’t get over her dad’s suicide.

Look, long story short. I was actually here to kill you.” Sato gave the man a small smile and a ‘what can you do’ shrug.

Kagawa stared at him, face turning an ugly red blotchy color. The air was tense, and then Sato started laughing shattering it completely. It took him a second before Kagawa started laughing as well.

Then Kagawa’s head went pop as the shard of ice in his mouth blew his skull apart. The dealer screamed as he was covered in Kagawa

“Well, that was fun,” Sato said wiping a bit of the man’s head from his coat. “Anyway ‘Emi’, we should get together later! It could be a blast!” The doors to the poker room burst open as casino security charged in alerted by the dealer’s screams.

But by then the Captain Sato had vanished in a twirl of snow.

OoC: Jutsu Used
Hyouton: Wareru (Ice Element: Shatter)
Requirements: 21 Willpower, 20 Intelligence, 19 Tactics, 17 Reserves, 15 Power
Description: This technique is designed to crack and detonate ice the user has created. It serves the dual purpose of turning iced-over parts of the battlefield into a minefield and delivering a finishing move to anybody encased in ice. With a seal and an effort of will the shinobi can cause any piece of ice they see to glow blue for a moment, crack and explode, damaging those nearby and tearing those trapped inside apart. They must focus on a small area of ice that they can see not exceeding a cubic meter per use of the jutsu, making its use on large groups of scattered enemies ill-advised.

and then Shunshin to leave.

The first thing Nagisa noticed was the warmth. Her body was covered in a familiar, yet disconcerting heat. Next was the red, the sheer amount of crimson that had suddenly covered everything in her sight. Then, then came the screams.

She had largely ignored the banter occurring between the two men, choosing to instead focus her attention on the sizable stack of currency that had just fallen into her lap. Her avarice had shut down the rest of her senses, acting as a set of blinders to everything going on around her. But even those blinders could not stand up to the mayhem that suddenly erupted at the table.

Time seemed to surge forward suddenly as Nagisa's brain rushed to process just what in the hell had happened. Her eyes darted from the Captain's toothy sneer, the dealer's horrified gaze, and finally, to the mess of flesh and bone that had once been Kagawa. The last time she had seen such a traumatic injury had been in the catacombs, when she saw her alias' namesake fall to bloody pieces just before her. She brought her hand to her mouth in an effort to suppress the urge to vomit, but a small trickle escaped between her fingers and leaked onto the table. She was mortified, but quickly turned her attention to the perpetrator...

Who was still grinning ear to ear. Security burst into the room, immediately recognizing the deceased and his assassin. But before they could reach, the Captain bid Nagisa a foreboding adieu and disappeared in a whirl of snow. The kunoichi knew that she too would have to vanish, lest security investigate and detain her as well.

Despite her horror at the situation she maneuvered quickly, scooping a large handful of the currency before her into her purse. By now, the remainder of the poker house had erupted into chaos as well, with patrons absconding with whatever cash they had before forming a mass of humanity heading for the exits; the perfect cover. Nagisa slipped into the crowd, quietly making a stop to retrieve her bass from the coat attendant before running off into the night.
