Default [Company] A Treasured Guest

A Mamotou Mission
A Treasured Guest
feat. Yen "The Frozen Prince" Sero & Hatsuyuki "the White" Shiro

This nomadic lifestyle is making me rusty.

Shiro yanked the kunai out of the young man, pressing the palm into the mouth of the boy against the wall to muffle the sounds of his dying breath. It wasn’t fair to deny a man his last words, but this kid knew the score when he signed up for an assassination mission. A flicker of movement in his periphery, almost obscured by his face plate – Shiro used the body of the boy as cover, shoving it in the direction of the movement. The throwing daggers that had sailed down the hallway hit the body with enough force to keep it standing with two soft plops, but it suddenly launched forwards down the hallway as Shiro gave it a solid and merciless kick. There was a sound of someone grunting as the corpse collapsed over them. Shiro was atop the corpse and – by extension – the second man in an instant, his bloody kunai lashing around the body for the throat of the other. There was a bit of struggling and desperate flailing, then stillness.

Sorry, I don’t think you’re the type of suitor the client enjoys.

He used the shinobi uniform of the body underneath him to wipe his kunai clean before sliding it back into its hiding spot in his sleeve. The Company had been goodly enough to supply him with a fresh kit of supplies, something he hadn’t had in quite a while, but the idea of conserving every last tool had become so ingrained in him that he couldn’t bare the thought of leaving anything behind. Once the commotion had died down, he fully intended to loot the corpses before dropping them off for collection. Sorry, Hidden Grass – I’ll send your boys back in body bags, but I’ll be keeping their effects.

“Is it a fucking ghost?” Someone rounded the corner, taking a step back in shock. Shiro was clad in near all black, disappearing in the shadowy hallway – but his sharp white mask was a terrifying reflection in the night. That moment of intimidation, that single bit of shock, is where Shiro thrived. If it wasn’t for the man startling at the sight of him he might have gotten taken out right then and there – rusty – but he was atop him with the soft sound of a ragged “Shhhhh---” as he repeated the process. Hand over the mouth, kunai through the ribs. Clean in, clean out, dead body. Efficient wetworks, his specialty. He caught his breath as he cleaned the blade on the shirt of the corpse, again, and when he was sure he didn’t hear any more approaching soldiers, he tapped the edge of his ear to activate his communication unit.

“Sero-san.” His voice was a ragged put-on growl, some form of identity protection. “West hall is clear. What's your status?”

As he waited for a response he dragged the body underneath him to the other two, and started to pad out their pockets, searching for timed explosives or spare kunai and the like. These guys were sharp, but not sharp enough to take on the Black Ops of Yukigakure – but they were probably just frontline soldiers or scouts. They all wore the Hidden Grass headband, which was concerning, but the Seamstress had taken a guest into her studio had had requested absolutely no distractions. That, naturally, included any lawmen or assassins sent for her head. She was a mysterious women, alluring in her skintight leather and mysteriously hidden face, but she hadn’t had any interest in Shiro, so he stayed focused on the mission. The money was good – real good – and even he desired a fine hotpot dinner every now and then.

There on the ground laid a man, a barely breathing man, though there was no blood. Instead his whole body was numb and paralyzed except his head. Though he could not scream the echoes of his muffles filled the halls. The man looked strong and despite his physical features he could not lift himself up. It was over before it began and out from the shadow came something. It looked like a man but it was not. His body said monster, his appendages said spider. It was Tengu, one of the guardians to The Queen. He had laid a trap of poison for the man and now it was slowly taking control.

The East wing didn’t seem to have as much action as Sero continued to freeze a man with his screams muffling through the ice. The hallway felt cold but Sero nor Tengu didn’t mind.

”We are all set over here kid.”Sero stated over the comm unit as the sound of crunching bones and liquids spewing over the hallway as Tengu feasted upon the man.

The man was still alive but he could not scream and he could not fight. It was terrifying and Sero was happy he was not in the same fate as him.

”Sero, if you are not careful that will be you on the floor one of these days but it will not be I that eats you. No, you will be saved for The Queen.” Tengu stated as he lifted his large frame from the floor.

Sero was worried of what his summon would do but the mission was important to Sero and he needed the cash.

”So Shiro, once we are done. I am trying to revitalize Snow and become the Prince. Would you consider being my right hand man? Pay could be good you know?” Sero added onto the conversation as him and his spider man guarded the door.

Shiro responded to Sero’s offer with a burst of white noise, silence over the waveband, before just closing his communication unit’s microphone and returning to his looting of the corpses. The only items of note on the corpses were weird little books they all kept, mostly encrypted with some cipher Shiro didn’t have the time to analyze – but some of them had cute hand drawn images and notes of objects of terror. Monsters, ghosts, youkai and demons – perhaps it was some sort of bijuu extermination squad. That was weird, because the Seamstress didn’t seem like a ninja of any sort. Maybe all that leather hid her curse mark. He sighed and dropped the books down on the corpses after he was done flipping through them, their contents seemingly useless.

This hadn’t been the first time Sero offered him a partner ship for retaking Yukigakure, but Shiro didn’t have the heart to tell him it was a fool’s errand. He himself had made the trek back to explore the carnage – everything of value was destroyed or stolen away, and the entire region was mostly a series of Konoha watchtowers and looters and salvagers. The village itself was the heart of the population, and with everyone dead or scattered to the wind, it wouldn’t be worth the effort to retake the region. You’d have to fight against Konoha and her allies, then bring untold tons of steel, engineers to recreate the bunkers...hundreds of years of building destroyed in a single effort. Shiro’s fist clenched so hard the sound of his glove squeaking was audible. No, there was no reason to focus on that.

He relaxed, let out a breath, and started towards the north wing of the building. This Seamstress sure had money or connections – to hire two mercenary shinobi through an intermediary like the Mamotou, this elaborate and beautiful state. She lived in a different world from Shiro entirely, who made most of his living in inns and hostels, if not just camping out in the wild, traveling and following the whispers of solid shinobi work. His reputation was starting to proceed him, which was a bit troubling – but it was hard to do work well enough to garner respect and additional work without people talking about it. The “White”, a white faced specter clad all in black. The last ghost from Yukigakure’s most hallowed black ops.

“Did you kill my boys?”

Shiro started, caught off guard for the second time this evening. These guys were good. He turned to the voice, furrowing his brows.

Pretty standard shinobi kit, nothing too fancy stands out – sword on the back, flak vest, Hidden Grass headband. Regular body type, possibly ninjutsu focused. Scar on the cheek. Scar on the left eyebrow. Maybe talented at taijutsu then. Blue eyes, olive skin, reddish hair. Experienced, well postured. Chuunin, possibly jounin, since he snuck up on me. Part of the same squad that attacked the building, naturally. No reason to respond.

Wordlessly, Shiro moved forward with his arms in front of him, placed to guard his throat and stomach as he approached, before swinging his arms out to strike at his target. The other man was swift, catching each strike in turn and pressing them away. They scuffled for a few moments before their powerful blows sent them both sliding back from each other.

“Well? Did you?” He asked again.

Shiro’s white-mask face stared blankly at the man before coming back in with a series of more speed, vicious attacks. He finally broke the guard, landing a solid hit to the throat. The man gargled a bit as he reset his breathing and suddenly punched through Shiro’s assault dead center on the mask. The blunt trauma sent Shiro’s head snapping back and he let out a small cry of pain, but the other man cursed and shook his hand a few times from slamming into the armored plate.

“Six kids sent to investigate, none responded almost as soon as they entered the estate. One of them was a genin, you know.”

The one with the cute drawings...probably sixteen.

“And one was a father.”

The first guy tried to gargle out a goodbye.

“Did you kill my boys?”

Shiro readjusted his mask, relieving the pressure off of his bruising forehead for a moment, then readopted his stance to face the man again. One hand curled up to protect the throat, arm crossing over the chest. The other to protect the stomach and groin. He started to move forward again, but he finally spoke in his growling fashion, “Home invaders tend to be met with lethal force.”

A series of blows were traded between the two men. “There’s no reason for me to hunt you, if you want to collect your bodies and leave.” Shiro urged.

At that, the other man’s face twisted in a pained anger. “I’ll kill you, you know.”

Shiro let out a ragged sigh. “I’m really sorry you had to go out this way.”

He bounced a few steps on his feet then turned to disappear into the shadows – Tengu, that horrible beast, had risen from the shadows behind the Jounin from Kusagakure, and Shiro couldn’t stand the sight of the thing. There was no reason to watch however it killed.

Sero had asked for the spider summon to head off in the direction of his partner. It was unclear whether or not the man was having more issue then Sero, considering there were not a lot of commotion going on his side. There was definitely more to come but for now Sero would be safe with an extra snow clone to keep him company as they waited out their next objective.

Once Tengu arrived it was obvious that his target was a little shaken. The fact that the man was already a punch to the neck helped Tengu a little bit but he was also not the strongest of summons and to face off against a Jounin would be something that Tengu would have to be careful with. However, there was a lot to the spider man that many did not know and without much warning the beast attacked. It wasn’t a physical attack but instead the lights, sounds, and the surrounding area as a whole started to vibrate and become an irritant.

”What the fuck!” The man screamed as his vision began to blur and everything seemed to end up multicolored and strange. Not wanting to give up too easy the man orchestrated a few hand signs before spears of wood rushed towards the general direction of Tengu. Nearly hitting the large spider Tengu was relieved he had already debilitated the man.

”You know, the boy, he tasted really good, the genin right? He was your boy?”

”Shut the fuck up and fight me you prick!” The mysterious man stated as he started to swing wildly.

”No, I want to have you at ease.” Tengu stated as his teeth pierced the leg of the man.

However, a strong kick landed right in the face of the large man spider and it sent him flying and crashing against the wall.

”Is that all you got?” the man stated

”It should be enough” Tengu replied as his fangs began to drool

Shiro appeared from the shadows behind Sero, giving him a small grunt as he did so – otherwise it was dangerous to suddenly appear behind a ninja of any rank, much less the Frozen Prince of Yukigakure’s Refugees. His mask hid his expression, and for good reason – he was about as pale as the mask was.

“I hate that thing,” He finally admitted. “Making allies of maneaters will probably be your downfall.”

He had dropped that growling thing as nausea had started to take him over. He took a step back to the shadows again. “I’ll clean up the bodies and get the blood off the client’s walls before it starts to set. When that...thing is done, kindly send it home.”

He tried not to focus on the howls of pain and terror of the Jounin from Hidden Grass as they echoed around the hallways. They were supposed to be handling these indiscretions silently – using a monster that killed pray slowly was anything but silent. Shiro was swift to get the bodies bagged up and stripped of gear, lumping them in a pile behind the house with the rest of the refuse. Before dawn broke around the house, he had carefully and meticulously cleaned everything – although he was a bit disappointed to find most of the Jounin’s gear had been destroyed in his entanglement with Sero’s monster. He had changed his own kit out, leaving the mask behind and wearing mostly civilian gear, so he could more properly greet the Seamstress in the morning.

Despite his misgivings, something about her was alluring – the sense of power that she held? That slinky, skintight leather? The hidden face behind a veil?

He stiffened to attention as she made her way out of her quarters – noticeably, the young man she had entreated alone with her the previous evening was nowhere to be seen. There was no way he had snuck out past the two Jounin from Yukigakure, so the obvious assumption was that he was sleeping in. Shiro reminded himself that he had only his mission, and jealousy of a good life wasn’t something he was allowed to have. He chose this life, after all.

“There was four or five,” Shiro said. “I’ve collected four corpses, but perhaps a fifth was devoured by Sero-san’s monstrosity.”

“And not a bit of blood on my precious walls.”

Shiro nodded at her. He had only gotten a few hours of sleep, but he was doing his best to look chipper, loaded with amphetamine pills to stay alert. “Once in town, I’ll have a cleaner come by to collect the corpses.”

“No, no, I’ll be taking those as a little souvenir for my time in Kichoushi. The local trinket shop doesn’t have anything that matches my tastes.”

Oh, she’s insane.

She smiled at him, almost if she could read his mind – at least by his furrowed brow, and continued. “I’ll be heading back into town for supplies and say goodbye to some friends of mine before I start to prepare for my journey back to Rice Country. I trust you two will find a way to stay out of my hair while also making my journey a quiet one.”

“As you wish.”

”You know Tengu, you can be quite the charmer when it comes to our allies. I mean, eating the dude would have been cool and all wit me, but we are trying to make an impression on my fellow Yuke-nin. How would they feel if their leader had maneating monsters as friends?” Sero stated as he scolded the large spider, it was seemed like Sero was no longer afraid of the beasts.

”I think they would respect you, that is of course if you don’t get devoured before then.” Tengu responded with a smirk on his face.

Sero bowed his head to the beast and then with a flick of his fingers the beast ceased to exist in their realm. Sero was abrupt, but he was also efficient in humoring the request of the fellow snow shinobi. Sero thought it was weird that a special force shinobi would be so freaked out but a summon. Sero was positive that they had some in their own village, except of course none were spiders. None the less, it was no uncommon that someone as strong as Sero would file a pact with summons.

”Miss, The fifth man had been devoured by my summon Tengu, I apologize. I heard the conversation as I was entering the room, we are all set with your accommodations and we will make sure no one bothers you.” Sero stated. I have also enlisted the help of another spider, this one not as fierce and scary. AS a matter of fact he is hiding somewhere in this room right now.”[/color] Sero stated before a vase began to warp into another spider. The trap door spider.

”Hey boss and company, I am Togo, the trap door spider, I can hide wherever I go.” The new spider summon staed as the three readied to escort the woman.

”Let us be on our way.” The woman stated.

Shiro had been in cognito as ever, hair fluffed and messed about his head and his posture relaxed and clothing simple. His civilian persona, effective at blending into crowds when needed. While his motivation had to been to keep an eye out for any attacks or problems that might beset the Seamstress during her time out in town, it had been so uneventful he couldn’t help but eavesdrop a bit on her movements. While he sat outside a clinic, pretending to be interested in feeding birds, he had heard her mention the need for a personal supplier of - - something, but presumably clinic materials. Walking a few dozen feet behind her as she meandered a long a stream, she took a few samples of plants he himself recognized for having medicinal properties – although two that for sure were forms of poison ivy. He wanted to mention something, but kept himself to himself, as requested.

Her motivations are unknown. Shiro mused. But I’m starting to wager the young man she had taken to her quarters last night wasn’t living such a good life, after all. She’s starting to give me weird vibes.

He watched as she swayed her hips slightly as she talked to a mysterious bald man with deep colored sunglasses obscuring his face, his teeth yellowed as he smiled at her. She lightly touched his cheek as she talked to him, eyes sparkling with some vibrant passion. He looked away from the pair as they talked, their conversation hidden to him, and furrowed his brow as he noticed a young woman looking directly at the pair. Her clothing was simple, but she had the hilt of a sword poking out from her robe. She was positively glaring at the seamstress. Scars flecked her skintone on her fingers, and some light discoloration on her neck - - possibly from burn scars? Shinobi wounds.

Shiro moved through the crowd to her quickly, and unseen - - he was ready to produce a kunai from his sleeve and inject it directly into her throat when he heard her muttering. He slammed his back against the wall of a botanist and started to fumble with his boot, as if it need to be tied.

“What is he doing? Creepy old man.” The girl spat, chewing on the edge of her thumb. “Just buy the shit and get away from her, she creeps me out.”

The Jounin let out a soft sigh. Definitely not a shinobi, speaking out of stress. Friend of the man working with the Seamstress, maybe. He eyed back to the two and saw them continue their flirtations, and cut his gaze through the crowd to find Sero. Looked like it would be an uneventful day out with the mysterious woman, after all. Shiro tried to relax, but he couldn’t. There was something about the woman they were protecting that ran up his back, not dissimilar to the fright he got from Sero’s twisted arachnid companions. Something otherworldly, something unnatural.

Sero was sifting through the crowd like a phantom. Though he physically did not pass through the bodies of the civilians in the crowded market, he was able to breeze by them as such. He had enjoyed his time thus far and to be honest he was getting more accustomed to his spider friends the more and more that he used them. He was satisfied thus far with their skills and it would be a hell of a thing if he was truly able to conquer their power for his own. However, the idea that his home country was still in ruin bothered him and despite trying his hardest, he couldn’t help but think about his fellow yuke-nin. Of course, the main goal of the trip was to make sure the woman in front of him was alright, the only problem was that he just didn’t care.

He kept good eyes on the target and as he continued to watch the situation unfold he was surprised when he noticed another man staring. It was the type of stare that could be confused with love lust and bloodlust. The only thing separating the two was actual death.

Sneaking up to the man Sero whispered into the man’s ear.

”She is gorgeous is she not?” Sero stated quite calm and questioning of the situation as if ignorant to the whole idea that someone might be out to kill the woman.

”Yea, she is something else I have to say. I have heard rumors of her.”

”You best stay away Another voice stated now behind Sero, it looked like it was a pincer attack and for a moment Sero was stunned. He wasn’t sure what to do and with a quick thinking he relaxed himself. He was in no position to win this fight.

Clicking his comm unit on he began to speak, hoping his partner would hear.

”Alright boys, now I don’t want any trouble, I am just admiring this woman. Here, lets have some food right here, this ramen stand looks good what you say?” Sero stated, trying to give coordinates to his teammate.

Shiro was smiling broadly at the young woman that had been glowering at the bald, bespectacled man that had been taking the time of the Seamstress. She had started to unload boxes from a cart, and when she was struggling, he popped around from the corner to help her lift the boxes. Even with the pair of them, it was no insignificant amount of weight to them. She was glad for the help, her face an embarrassed flush as she worked alongside the tall man, and finally sputtered her name.

“I’m Orino, by the way.” She managed, brushing off her brow with the back of her hand. Shiro patted down on the boxes they were unloading.

“I’m Shiro. Do you work here?”

“No, we’re just traveling through, me and my boss there.” She nodded at the bald man – she must have seen Shiro watching the pair. “She your boss?”

“She’s dressed funny, I was just wondering what kind of man would be interested in that sort of thing.”

Orino rolled her eyes and started for an other box off the back of the cart. Shiro moved after her, and together, they hefted the thing down. “Jeeze, what’s in these boxes, anyway?”

“Literally, actually, rocks. Potting soil and the like.” She rested her foot against one and sighed. “Little side job to keep us busy. You sure you don’t know that lady better?”

“I’m sure.” Shiro glanced over his shoulder at her - - for a moment he thought he heard something, maybe a buzz over the crackle of his comm unit, secured in his pocket.

She put her hand on her hip. “Well, I’ve seen you around town today a lot, and you seem to be right behind her at all times. You’re kind of hard to miss with that height of yours.”

Damn.

“Probably a coincidence. I only just noticed her recently.”

“You furrow your brow when you’re thinking too much, did you know?”

“I’m not sure I – “

She was already drawing her sword. Shiro took a step back in shock, and held up both of his hands in surrender. “Hey, easy, easy, what’s going on?”

“We already lost enough guys last night, scum. What village do you work for?”

“Village? What?” Shiro started with a whine, turning to look over his shoulder quickly – escape to the crowd was an option. Plowing through her was one, too. Where was Sero? He shouldn’t have taken his comm unit out of his ear, but he was doing his best to look unassuming. “I’m a journalist. I come from – “

“Cut the shit, “Shiro”. Scouts report that the forward attacking party was cut down mostly by a giant of a man like yourself.”

“I really don’t – “

But reasoning with her was out of the question. She moved over the box and kneed him directly in the chest, winding him cleanly, and slammed him down on the gravel of the alleyway. Her blade was against his throat in a flash, close enough to draw a line line of blood, and she growled into his ear.

“I’m Orino the Swift. I cut shitty show-off ninja like you down all the time. Tell me what I need to know and I’ll kill you quick. Who are you working for? You ain’t got the eighth mark, right? Who’s your master?”

”Well, this sure is awkward wouldn’t you say boys?” Sero stated as a blade started to bury into the man’s body. However, there was something really weird with the snow shinobi. He did not bleed red but instead it felt like a mound of snow to the man behind Sero. It was then obvious that there was something completely off about the whole situation, however it was too late.

A spear of invisible ice pierce the head of the man behind the snow clone and it seemed like a surreal situation for both the clone of Sero and the man in front of the clone. The gurgling of the man seemed to lightly warn the other man to run. Thus, he did as the clone grabbed the man behind him before he fell to the floor. The most important thing about the whole situation was to not draw any drama.

”Oh, you drunk mess, lets get out of here.” Sero clones stated as he began walking to the alleyway adjacent to them. Sero was watching the other mysterious person as he rushed towards the opposite side of the market.

”I am going to grab the other shinobi, after you are done with the body follow our true VIP.” Sero stated with conviction in his head. He knew that what he was thinking, the clone would be thinking as well.

Sero rushed towards the corner of the area before the man disappeared. Sero wasn’t really sure where he went but Sero felt like the man had gotten away and it was the problem that Sero would have to deal with. For now, he was worried about his friend. He hadn’t heard from him in a while and he was hoping he was alright.

”I dispatched one, one got away. I need you to tell me where you are. WE might be in trouble. I am heading back to our VIP.” Sero stated, hoping someone would answer.
