Default A Prince's Demise

Nen was doing a lot of things recently when it came to diplomacy within the other Villages. Ever since the Kage Summit in the Land of Iron, Nen had been to Sound and now he was heading to Wind Country. He was to meet a boy, chuunin rank and help him discover some things that were going on within the Village. Nen was not so hastily eager to be away from the swamps and the sewers, but he knew that the more he did, the better off the whole Rain Village would end up. Besides Lady Kage Ayame was counting on him for some support.

He knew of a few strong Rain Jounin and he wanted to be considered one of the best as well. His only real hope would be to prove to other Villages that the Rain was something to not mess with.

The arid desert air was something that really got to a person that was used to swampy and humid environments. You could really sweat and be gross in his home country, but Wind Country was all too different. As he came upon Kaze no Kuni, he basked in its amazement. He was there with emissaries and although they were all welcomed with prying and defending eyes, the tension would cease once his intentions were clear. Nen only hoped that the chuunin he would be with was capable enough to do something. Either way, Nen was more then capable and he almost laughed to himself thinking that maybe there weren’t any strong Jounin in the village to take up a dangerous mission, or maybe perhaps there weren’t enough shinobi as there was.

There was some stirring of massacres and weird occult shit that was going on within the country but it was nothing that Nen would know about. He was to meet his partner and they would travel with the sand chuunin as lead.

Work was work was work. Motonubu never turned his nose up at a job, even one as utterly banal and pointless as this. Can you even imagine it, whores turning up dead in the criminal capital of Kaze no Kuni? Oh, the humanity! Oh, the horror!

Oh, the paycheck. Sunagakure, after all, had been perfectly content to sit around until someone forked up the cash to pay for an investigation. Motonubu took a deep, dry breath though his nostrils, taking in quite a bit of cigarette smoke as he did. Sometimes you just have to take the good with the bad.

“Yo, bro.”
A blonde child crept up and tapped the Rain jounin on his elbow with a pudgy finger. “You Tenka Nen?” He waited a second, just to listen to a response he didn’t care about anyway. “I’m Wisp, your contact. We gotta move quick if we wanna get to Bouryoraku before sundown! I’ll fill you in as we go.”

The odd couple’s target that evening was one Arai Hisashi. Hisashi himself was one of the wealthier ‘patrons’ of Bouryoraku. With his money came women. Coincidentally, the last of his conquests just so happened to turn up dead in a dumpster with her back shorn clean off. No evidence connected him to the crime or the similar crimes that cropped up in the city from time to time. Really, Sunagakure had nothing on the man.

Wisp left this part out, but in his own head he could connect the dots. There was no good reason to send a foreign jounin on an investigation like this. There especially wasn’t any reason to send a Yagyou. That is, unless Sunagakure wanted to distance itself from the whole affair by sending shinobi that couldn’t really be traced. Almost felt like having a blank check!

But, nope! Pure speculation on Wisp’s part. An immense field of tin-roofed shacks and burning piles of garbage greeted the two shinobi as they entered Bouryoraku’s unofficial city limits. “Welcome to Kaze no Kuni, bro.” Wisp stepped lightly around the crater filled streets, a feat he couldn’t have managed back when he first got the new body. Now he controlled the child’s limbs as easily as his adult ones.

“Arai Hisashi lives in a gated compound in the Gbarzon district, right that way.” Wisp pointed his finger down the twisted dust road of Bouryoraku. “Has a big metal water tower with this ugly mural on it. Hard to miss.” Skipping past a beggar he turned around to face the Rain-nin. “How do you wanna do this, Mister Nen?”

Nen was surprised with the blonde boy as he entered the area where the rain Jounin was standing, he did not expect someone like that to be on a mission that would otherwise be calling for a Jounin. His appearance and demeanor made Nen wonder if this was a joke or if the mysterious shinobi was powerful, or if his original thought of Sunagkaure really having a shortage of shinobi to fight for them. Either way, Nen was ready to go and as they exchanged pleasantries Nen was ready to move.

The travel through the desert wasn't nearly as bad as he remembered, and in fact, he was almost enjoying it this time. Watching the kid carefully he followed lead not wanting to take anything for granted. If this kid was leading him into a trap there would be no way for Nen to know and he would be up shits creak if it was really bad. The city they entered was nothing more then a shit hole and to be frank, Rain probably looked better then this, even in Sector Two.

The kid was so proper and Nen really didn't think anything of it, but there was something that really made him think like the boy was hiding a secret.

"How do I want to handle it? Well, honestly kid, I like the rough shit. I like to go in and kill people. You like that or we need jazz? This is your Country after all. But before anything, lets prepare a little."

With a single string of handsigns a bushin of mud started to erupt from teh ground. Complete likeness to Nen, the two would wait for Wisps reaction and thoughts.

Oh gee, Sunagakure brought in a blood thirsty soldier for this job, what a surprise. Wisp began to think that maybe he’d been assigned explicitly to cover up the inevitable bloodbath. That’s the Sunagakure way, alright!

“Ah, but, bro,”
Wisp matched Nen’s stride, looking up to the tall man as he spoke. “Like I said earlier, we don’t have any evidence on this guy. It would be pretty bad if we killed someone who had nothing to do with the murders, wouldn’t it?” Though his words carried a serious tone, his expression seemed to suggest a childlike carelessness about the topic of wrongful execution. “We’re just investigating a person of interest. He’s not an ex-shinobi or mafia boss or anything. No need to be violent at all. Unless they resist, of course.”

Despite the completely arid environment the jounin managed to somehow pull enough moisture together to turn the filth at their feet into mud. Wisp’s regarded them with a certain disdain, then tossed his hands behind his head in surrender. “Yeah, bro, sure. Just prep right out here in the open, I’m sure nobody will be worried about a foreigner like yourself just tossing jutsu out on the street.”

As expected once Nen outted himself as a shinobi of dubious intent the streets at once became devoid of life. The usual vagrants and low-lives disappeared into the growing shadows of the city. Bouryoraku was no stranger to conflict and shinobi especially tended to be harbingers of violence. Good reputation to have for threatening people, bad for actually getting stuff done.

Seeing how their cover was already blown Wisp decided against subtlety. It’d be hard to lie about their intentions when several identical clones of Nen were milling around. His small hands banged on the iron gate right outside Hisashi’s compound. A small metal panel slid open and an angry pair of eyes stared down at him.

“Yo!”
Wisp smiled as best he could. “We’re Sunagakure shinobi. If Arai Hisashi is home, we’d like to talk to him about a woman named Kizuna Momo he was seen with recently.” Regarding the Rain jounin behind him, Wisp added “I mean, my team captain would like to talk to him! Don’t mind me at all.”

“He’s not home.”
Spat the sentry, slamming the viewport closed. “Come back tomorrow.”

“Bet he won’t be home tomorrow, either.”
Wisp quietly grunted to himself. He turned to the jounin. “As a guest on Kaze no Kuni soil, I’d suggest doing your best to keep the body count low.” Wisp jerked a thumb back towards the gate. “If you’re waiting for my permission though, you can go nuts now. Get that gate open.”

Nen felt kind of stupid to say the least, however, this was the way he grew up within the sewers of Amegakure. The simple fact that constant war had devoid him of any sense was an understatement. He had a lot to think about and he would be willing to deal with it later. He didn't think that creating a clone would be so much of a problem, however, it seemed like Nen was wrong and he would take blame. Hell, if there was anyone that could really make an entrance it was him.

After the scolding from the younger shinobi, Nen continued onward as if he could care less what would happen to him. He knew that diplomacy was the big thing but he wanted to make sure shit was getting done. The man they were after was probably the man they needed, however, Nen could not be sure, that is why he went with a clone. He felt a clone was not much of a problem. Beside if the kid had a problem with people knowing they were shinobi, Nen probably shouldnt have worn any of his gear.

"Well, fuck it." Nen stated as he gave a smile at the whole situation that was unfolding within the confines of this small little area.

Nen didn't know how to break down the gate and to be honest, if he really did want to mess with this whole situation he would go big or go home. So as he looked at the reinforced steel he decided with what he would do.

"Nah, lets go. Maybe he will come out later when he realizes we left and go to a bar or something." Nen whispered into the ear of the boy as he walked away.

He planned on catching him red handed and there was no way it would happen otherwise.

Wisp exhaled and spun his arms around as if stretching. “Sure, boss. Let’s take it easy.”

Once the pair put enough distance between them and the compound Wisp spoke up again. “I suppose you have a plan, then?” Like a sulking kid he put his hands in his pockets and shuffled his feet against the crooked stone road. “You wanna take it slow, that’s fine. Let’s talk, bro.”

After a brief glance down an alley Wisp turned into it, fully expecting Nen to follow. A few vagrants idled around the shadows but scattered as the boy came closer. Private enough.

“Full disclosure, then. My specialty is misdirection, infiltration, and assassination.”
Wisp listed out his skills completely bored, as if reciting a grocery list. “Here, you can skim though these.” From within his casual clothing he pulled out a small stack of photographs. “Seventeen confirmed victims. Names and ages are written on the backs here.” He handed the stack off to Nen. “Other than that they are female, there doesn’t seem to be any similarities. Different heights, weights, hair color, eye color. Some are prostitutes, some are young, some are old.” Wisp sighed and leaned against a dirty stone wall. “Mothers, sisters, wives- no pattern there either. From all over Bouryoraku, too, not just the poorest parts.”

“So,” Wisp shot a look down the alley again, just to make sure they weren’t being watched. “Even if we find out Arai Hisashi is our guy, that isn’t even the end of the problem. Guy travels with a security entourage too. They’ll be on the lookout for our asses. The quieter we can do this, the better.”

“With that said, got any ideas, bro?”

The sound of the club was almost deafening as Nen and a strange woman walked into the establishment. They had been given trouble a few moments prior from the security but it seemed someone was holding a special interest for the woman and Nen. The only thing that was missing was the blonde haired boy from previously, or was he? It seemed like Nen had gotten the greatest idea and it would be a perfect way to prove the man they were searching for and questioning was in fact the killer.

"Ok here is the plan

In the mind of Nen it seemed like a perfect plan and luckily he was no longer dressed up as a ruffian and instead he had a civilian let him borrow his dance clothes. Now it wasnt the best disguise, but it should work. Hopefully, this would work out just as plan and Nen was hoping the Wisp was really as good as he said he was.

The people crowded around the two shinobi and it didn't seem like anything would really be achieved. That was until a large man walked up to the two of them.

"My boss would like to see you over there, in the VIP area. Your boyfriend can't come though." The burly man stated as he shoved Nen a little to the side.

Nen had a good poker face and tried to give it a little bit of a fight, but inside he was really smiling.

“Ah, oh, but,” the woman chided the big grabby man. “Surely we can come to some kind of arrangement-“ Even as she protested she already began separating from Nen. “I’ll be back soon, right? This won’t take long?”

Soon the burly escort and the woman slipped through a heavy black door and ascended the stairs. In the next moment they reappeared in the club proper, but a floor higher. Here the music played quieter and the lights shined dimmer. Less bodies too.

Without warning someone behind the woman gave her a rough tap on the back of her neck, hard enough to knock her off balance. She sputtered, then turned around in a huff. “What the bloody hell-“

“Sorry.”
The bouncer near the door gave a small bow. “Standard security procedure.”

The woman scowled, clearly unhappy but not for the obvious reason. Were they expecting shinobi? That might ruin the whole evening!

A younger man beckoned her with a slim arm towards a long couch in the corner of the VIP balcony. His black hair was well oiled and his large face welcoming. The woman did her best to look indignant as she approached.

“Welcome-“
Arai Hisashi didn’t get to speak long before getting an earful.

“What’s the meaning of this?”
The woman fumed. “I’m trying to enjoy an evening out with my…partner, not fling myself into the arms of some wealthy businessman-“

Hisashi chuckled and shook his head. “Oh, my apologies. My intentions are not so crass! Please, please, sit.” He gestured calmly at the seat across from him, rather than the empty one next to him. “We can include your, partner was it? Don’t worry about that.”

The woman gave a skeptical look, but acquiesced. She slid into the seat and put both her arms up on the table between them. Hirashi’s eyes were immediately drawn to the exposed flesh, but just for a moment. “Are you a foreigner? Kaze no Kuni’s sun must be brutal on your skin. How do you keep it so…immaculate?” His arm reached out to touch her, but she withdrew it in an instant.

“Hard work.”
The woman regarded Hisashi with a cold eye. “Why did you pull me up here?”

“I’ll be frank.”
He coughed, and adjusted himself in his seat in preparation. “I am an artist, a sculptor. I love to model unique individuals, but I think I’ve collected more than enough in my time here. I’ll be leaving tomorrow, actually, in search of new material.”

“My my.”
The woman’s voice suggested zero interest. “I wish you a safe journey, then.”

“Enough about me, though. Do tell me where you come from, if it is not too much trouble?” A drink arrived at the table and was placed right in front of the woman. She observed it and chose not to touch it.

This was going too well.

He had to wait, that’s all he had to do. Nen was a patient sort of man, waiting in shit infested mud for his prey to come upon him. He knew that he could really do this if he tried and despite being pushed around by a thug that he knew he could destroy and mangle in no longer then a few seconds, his pride was a little hurt. It was because of this that he started to drink a little.

”Let me get a tonic!” Nen screamed over the crowd around the bar. It was busy on the dance floor but the bar had been moderately full.

As the man came back with his drink and Nen began to take his money out he was stopped by a hand.

”Don’t worry about it man, I know you need a drink. Mr. Hisashi just took your lady, you probably wont even see her ever again.” The man stated and ran off almost acting like he wasn’t supposed to have said that without his own consequences.

Nen seem a little interested at this point and in his mind he thought they were now on to something. If the regulars here knew who the man was then they might also know what the man does. That would explain the weird looks woman around him were giving Nen and how they almost looked sorry for him. However, the jokes were on them as he knew that there was nothing that would stop his attack and he had hoped that the wisp was able to hold his own against the brute.

Nen chugged his drink and he slammed it on the counter before entering the dance floor. He might as well have some fun while he waited.

So Nen would wait, he would wait till the opportune time in the shit infested mud.

It would be another half hour before Nen’s date and Arai Hisashi descended from the VIP area. She walked an arm’s length away and wore a clearly agitated expression, and a ring of security surrounded them as they made their long way around the club. Despite his company’s dour face Hisashi looked quite beside himself.

“That your drunk boyfriend?”
Hisashi shouted as if intending for Nen to hear it.

With a sincere amount of disgust the woman responded. “Not for much longer, I hope.”

The convoy left without addressing Nen specifically, but it was clear from the behavior of the bodyguards they were keeping an eye on him, even as they slipped out of sight.

-

“Gaudy.”
She held the small figurine as far as her arm could stretch and regarded it with disdain. “What is the point of it?”

“It’s a representation of innocence,”
Hisashi droned at his guest, moving in between glass displays to fetch some other carving of his. “About the decay of life itself into more base elements..”

“Hmmm.”
The woman turned the bizarrely shaped object around in the light a few times before setting it down on the stone table, next to several open bottles of wine. Had she really wasted an entire evening chasing a dead end? Arai Hisashi brought her from exhibit to exhibit of his, showing her paintings, sculptors, engravings, never once giving any hint about missing women. She wasn’t trying very hard to seduce him, and he wasn’t trying very hard to be seduced either. As soon as she’d set foot on his compound all he’d wanted to do was talk about art!

“I’m going to go out and smoke, is that alright?”
The woman sighed and stood up from the sofa. Hisashi waved her away as he picked through numerous scrolls laying spread out across a counter. She walked through a glass door to an outside balcony, surveying Hisashi’s estate. Security was tight, and massive floodlights illuminated each of the compound’s tall walls. His house was actually very dimly lit, however. It appeared as though he cared more about making sure nobody could get in. Or out.

The woman lit two cigarettes, tossing one of them up onto the roof of the house. Nothing discovered, yet. Arai Hisashi might be innocent after all.

“Tobacco stains your body, you know.”
Hisashi spoke from inside the house towards the woman, his voice now carrying tones of disapproval. “It’s really strange you smoke so much but have such great skin.”

“It’s strange you are spending all this time with me despite my distaste for your hobby.” The woman’s voice carried an equal amount of disapproval. “Are we going to get on with this 'modeling', Arai?”

“Please, like I’ve been saying.”
The man’s face return to its usual placid expression. “Call me Hisashi.”
