As it was, his eyes were glued to the fight, not entirely certain of which way it would go or how he would even go about supporting the other guy running literal circles around the Snow shinobi. The Aramaki jutsu was direct and destructive. Its limitations suddenly grew glaringly obvious. He was lost in all that thought when the Nara's voice echoed from behind him and his heart nearly leapt right out of his throat.

Tenzan only knew Nara Shikagerou by reputation. He'd never actually met the man, but he'd heard plenty of stories to know exactly who he was on sight. God only knew what Hitomi had told the elder Nara about him. He wanted to object to being referred to as 'some fool' but he couldn't very well argue the truth of the description. After the initial shock, he was honestly relieved not to have to figure this out on his own.

"...sorry." Tenzan could tell the sennin wasn't mad. Though he'd probably get yelled at later for taking such reckless action, he at least didn't have to face it in that exact moment. "I just counted the two," he said, unable to hide the escaping tension in his breath. Just the idea of having been able to send a clone back made him a little more annoyed at himself--something else he couldn't really do. This seemed like the right thing to do at the outset but now...

He couldn't really worry about that now.

"Assist. Right." He peeked around the corner again. Tenzan at least knew what Tsuginori was doing--Sanshiro had done the same to him once before. As good an opening as the was, Tenzan's focus was on the spider. Rushing in wasn't a smart option.

Then again, Tenzan wasn't really known for taking the smart option.

Erratic flames trailed his step as he moved into the open and darted forward toward the bottom of the stairwell. His steps were quiet and he was surprisingly quick for his size, but his steps were deliberately non-linear. As wild as his approach was, each step was measured. He was watching, waiting, for something specific. As the Snow-nin swatted at the illusory birds, Tenzan thrust his fist forward and a series of three fireballs catapulted off his gloved knuckles, all aimed right for the back of Sero's head.

Shit!

Sugimoto had to reveal his true position to attack the snow ninja, but that opened himself up to attack. The eight wires of the kumo-summon didn’t even begin to register as visible in the prison’s darkened halls - - but he had seen the attack go for his clones just a few moments ago, and had heard the sound of the wires rushing through the air. He stepped off of his attack on the Yukigakure loyalist and dropped his sword to rush through a series of handseals, slapping his hands together.

The room filled with a blazing white-hot light for a moment, and when it cleared, Sugimoto had disappeared into the darkness, only his sword clattering to the ground to show that he had been there at all.

Just in time for Tenzan’s attack on the ninja.

Remarkable!” The Nara cheered, both to reinforce Tenzan’s morale as well as to draw attention to himself. The truth was, Tenzan was a bit out of his element here...but the Yukigakure shinobi had managed to hold back Sugimoto and that beast he had contracted to himself was a horrific nightmare. There was too much going on for the Nara to focus on it all on his own.

Not without damaging the prison or risking collateral damage, anyway.

Let me show you my fire, too.” He blazed to life with his own Ryuujin-fu technique, fire spitting and spiraling around his limbs with bright enough fury to fully illuminate the halls. The sweat on his brow evaporated away as his hair rose up against the heat. “As I protect this precious village of mine!

Fighting monsters - - sometimes you fought them in the guise of human men and women, but sometimes they were just that. The grotesque form of the spider made his stomach turn, but his teeth were gritting together with a determined fury as he struck out with a spear-handed strike. “Back to the Hell you came from, beast!

Sero grew angry at the idea that his prey had escaped, and even more so that he was able to get blinded by such an attack. However, it would have seemed that Sero was the winner in the end. More so, the man had left his sword to be handled by the yuki shinobi. It held no great difference to his own but it was nonetheless a weapon, a ornament for his trouble within the halls of that prison.

Before Sero could even recover from the flashing light illuminated in the halls of the once dark prison he was bombarded by what he could only describe at the time as fire. The heat from the attack had some weight to it and he would lie to say that he didn’t feel some kind of power to the side of his head.

It was certainly enough to knock him up a few steps, nearly tripping on the staircase in itself. Luckily, Suro was there to grab him from falling down. As his vision began to refocus on the situation, it became abundantly clear that there was now even more of an issue.

Instead of facing just one leaf shinobi, he now had to face two and what was even worse was the fact that one of the shinobi was a famed Nara that even Sero knew about. A Sennin does not go unnoticed no matter what village they were from and it was the fear that struck Sero for a moment that made him realize he was still alive. Still afraid of what could happen. It was with that idea that Sero plotted his next attack.

A hyper condense ball of ice hovered above his head and for a moment Sero thought to himself that there was no going back after this one. The spider rushed to the next floor not before setting his own trap as well. Within the shadows of the dark hallway his shadow would continue to linger. It was benign for all intensive purposes; at least for the moment.

”Better run Sero stated as the ball flashed through the air, aimed directly towards the duo.

The Nara's encouragement was surprisingly comforting. It wasn't the kind of reinforcement that he was used to; Aramaki Shin was a rather stern taskmaster when he was alive, and notoriously stingy with praise.

Go big or go home.

Tenzan had to repeat that, over and over, as if it were a prayer or a mantra. He was well aware that this Snow shinobi could very well end him, and that likelyhood went up if he made a mistake. He didn't have time to hesitate or doubt himself. He had to act. He had to think. He had to move.

All three blows hit home; the chuunin was a little surprised that he'd almost managed to knock the guy over, even with what was essentially a surprise attack. Tenzan was still focused more on the horrific nightmare fuel that was the spider. It didn't engage as Tenzan thought it would--rather, it skittered up the steps. That was bad. He had one shot and zero options. But he wasn't alone.

He had to make a rapid guess at what the sennin would do. If this were Hitomi, Yori, Iwao, Kiyoko... hell, even Sanshiro, he wouldn't have even thought about it. Inwardly, he steeled himself for the consequences of what was about to happen--whatever it was.

Tenzan flashed a series of handseals and the flames engulfing his legs from the knees down began to spark with more vigor. He crouched and then suddenly catapulted forward, a single wisp of flame marking his lanuch, sending him careening past the Snow-nin.

"Aramakis don't run."

Tenzan stopped suddenly on the other side of Sero and traced a circle with both hands in the air, a volatile sphere of erratic flame forming between his palms. He thrust the ball forward and it grew larger in a disturbingly short amount of time, with a violent bass that shook the entire corridor. He didn't notice the glacier until afterward, potentially shoving the Snow-nin into his own jutsu. Meanwhile the sennin's flames shot well over his head, aimed at withdrawing spider; if Tenzan had gone after it, he might've gotten right in the way.

Of course... now he was stuck between the shinobi he just attacked TWICE and the creepy spider. The flames on his limbs sputtered and faded as he took a combat stance. The countdown in his head began.

For a moment, Shikagerou was grinning over at Tenzan, even as his fiery attack fell short to the shadows of the spider that was slipping away through the spaces between spaces - - as that Yukigakure shinobi’s aim was off and the orb of intense cold, a cold so powerful he felt the chill even beyond his flames, sailed right past his shoulder and down the hallway behind him. But then there was a crack, and a sound of wood and metal becoming shrapnel as the cold suddenly expanded and grew out at a terrifying speed.

Where did Sugimoto go? flashed through his head. He wasn’t able to track him behind his flare, and only had barely sensed him slipping back and away from the fight. The man known as “Cremation” wasn’t known to run away from a fight. Would he be trapped in that ice and shrapnel?

The thick, rumbling bass of Tenzan’s attack blew out his right ear - - it popped and he gritted his teeth to find his balance again, even as the concussive force was directed away from him. That ice was still moving towards him as he shifted his feet, coming off of his spear-handed strike and already forming handseals like an old ninjutsu pro. He slapped his hands down and the tell-tale sign of his mastery over Konoha’s mokuton-style ninjutsu was apparent as a floral scent emanated from his body with the excretion.

The wooden walls of the hallway splintered out from their positions and crashed against each other, like the paper-wall doors of a feudal castle, one after an other, slamming shut only to be overwhelmed by the ice. Slam, slam, slam, slam - - rudimentary door-like shapes kept colliding together as the sennin let out a painful grunt.

When the dust settled, a single, final growth of the ice had still managed to break through the final door, just inches away from Shikagerou’s face. He eyed down the icicle shape, like he barely recognized it, before turning to Tenzan.

You al’right?” He stood up with some effort - - tendrils and vines had sprouted around his wrists as he ushered life into the worked wood. He brushed the growth away from him as he broke off the ice and let out a tsk. “Stopped this sneaky attack, but...

The Yukigakure ninja was nowhere to be seen - - likely slipping farther up the facility - - and the sounds of the ice cracking and breaking away at the hallway didn’t drown out the sounds of inmates cheering as they broke free from their compromised cells on the other side of the carnage of ice and wood. “If the Hokage and his Centurions made it, they’ll be able to handle that side no problem.

He turned to Tenzan and said it simply: “That means the rest of this is on our shoulders.
