Default Engiversary The Tenth

Ten Years? Really?

Here we all are again. It's been a long time since Engi's journey began, and I don't believe there's anyone here whose name isn't Jami that remembers the whole thing. A few months ago, if you asked, I would have told you that this place was dead. But Engi always brings her own back, one way or another. Her gravity cannot be denied.

But it isn't Engiversary yet, is it? No . . . Because we're doing something a little different this year to celebrate her birthday.

We mods have always struggled a bit with getting people what they want for Engiversary; we like to add something important and essential every year. But that doesn't always happen; we put things off, we delay, and things get underwhelming.

Well, Engi is nearing one decade of life. And that's not happening again this year. Instead of one big project, we have a lot. We're releasing one finished project from the mod lounge every week, starting today, implemented and ready to use immediately. We have new lists, we have reworks, we have announcements of an entirely different sort all lined up for you these next six weeks.

Every week leading up to the tenth of March, starting today, a moderator will post here telling us about the project they're releasing. I have to say, I'm excited! Many of these projects have been in progress for years, only to be released together now.

I hope they help to make Engi a little more fun for everyone who plays here. Edits caused by engiversary changes should be addressed here, while discussion should be directed here. Have fun . . . And happy Engiversary.

I’ll be starting off the rollout programs with something that I worked on: A new projectile list.

With help from a few of the mods, I combined three separate lists: Dagger Ninjutsu, Senbon Senzoku (Senbon Specialist), and Tobidougu no Jutsu (Projectile Arts) and created one unified list for all projectile based ninjutsu. Some of you may ask why would we have to do something like that. It’s mainly so a projectile specialist wouldn’t have to waste three lists to do something well while a ninjutsu specialist could devote to one or two lists.

On top of the new list, I’ve come up with a new archetype for Projectile Specialists which should help reduce the effect of the new lists. The new Archetype is as follows:

Projectile Specialist
Special: When taken as Primary Archetype, the character has perfect accuracy for one post. This only works with a projectile weapon attack. This does not necessarily mean the opponent will be hit, since defensive jutsu or measures can be taken..
Primary: Chakra
Secondary: Own Choice
Tertiary: Own Choice
Stat Merit: +1 Control, +1 Reserves, +1 Willpower
Stat Flaw: -1 Strength, -1 Stamina, -1 Tactics,
Description: These are people who choose to use throwing weapons as a main source of combat. Unlike any other class, these fighter's carry a wide variety of weapons and use them all to their advantage. Their eyesight and aim with a weapon is extremely high, people who usually have this archetype almost never seem to miss their targets. They practice some ninjutsu, but only the style of ninjutsu that can cause them to use their weapons to the best of their ability.

So, you might be asking yourself how to get your characters updated to reflect these changes? Simple…There will be a thread that will be devoted for list changes throughout the Engiversary. I hope you all enjoy the first installment of our Engiversary roll outs and continue to enjoy what we, the mods, have to offer.

Jami Edit:

A small bonus revamp - the list Eight Arms of Eternity no longer exists! Instead, it has been distilled down to two jutsu placed in the Global Ninjutsu list. I'm pretty sure this affects zero existing characters, but if it does, please post in the relevant Engiversary updates thread to get those points refunded.

The second week of Engiversary is here. This week is

Puppeteer Overhaul!

That's right, after a prolonged stay in Development Hell, changes to the puppet system have finally gone through, aimed at making the system easier to understand and the jutsu a little less prohibitive. The changes mainly concern the Kugutsu list and puppet mechanics themselves. I'll try to briefly summarize the changes:

-Puppet Weight has been removed. Puppeteers are already limited in how many puppets they can field at once, so weight was cut for being doubly restrictive (and confusing to many players).
-Size and Slots for puppets are now directly related with each Size having a maximum number of slots. No more wondering if that puppet in registry fits an arbitrary, unlisted ratio rule!
-A number of unique puppet-only items have been put in the mechanics section.
-Three example puppets have been created. Characters are free to use these example puppets as-is, allowing them to get through registry without worrying about their own custom puppets, and so players know what puppet should look like.
-Kugutsu no Jutsu list is now a nin-as-tai list. Puppet Senses and Technique Adaptation no longer have stat requirements.
-Kugutsuchi as an archetype and as a category of restricted techniques no longer exist. Anyone who has Kugutsuchi may keep it, but all puppeteers now have access to what used to be Kugutsuchi techs from creation.

I strongly suspect that these changes don't affect many current characters, but hopefully they'll serve to help anyone who's been interested in puppeteers, but found the original 3.0 rules a bit too much.

Welcome to di-- I mean, Week Three!

Hi. ; ) I will be keeping the metaphorical "gravy train" rolling today with not just an update, but a revamp of... [drumroll intensifies]

You guys may or may not know that this is a list that I've wanted to work on for a while, but with the help of my fellow moderators, we were able to give a little something-something to those shinobi who don't exactly want to run around and blow things up. If you like stealth, misdirection, and manipulation... this is the list for you!

As usual, if you have a character that uses the existing TLO list, please head over to the respective thread to post your respective changes in order for you to get your updated techniques. And also remember to head to this one to discuss. This isn't all that you'll be getting today, so stay tuned to this thread for more.

Ciao~

Huh? Did you think that was all this week? Well no! It wasn't! It Isn't!

EoE Ratings!

From this point on, EoE and above may rate threads just as moderators can, with a few caveats. This is an ability that many of our EoE have been clamoring for lately. While I can't promise that they won't come to regret it soon, I do very much hope that it will make ratings speed along a little more quickly, especially considering the influx of threads that we've been getting lately. If you're an EoE, you can find a list to the new rules here. The rest of you won't be able to see it, since it links to the fancy EoE Lounge, but you can trust me; it's there.

Week four's gift has been teased a bit, but here it is:

Yes, there are now a total of four major summon contracts available to characters of any and all village affiliations, including m-nin and other various weirdos. For the most part, these summons follow standard rules, but are purposefully much more obtainable for the average character. Note that if you have a character who already meets the requirements for these contracts, you can start taking one with your next batch of thread points!

Delayed Updates

This week, after some unexpected obstacles, we're going to have to wait a little bit before putting the proper update. I'm as unhappy about this as you are, I promise, but now that Engi is back up we're going to try to get this week's update up as soon as possible. The work is done, we just need to get things properly approved. We should be able to get everything out before next Tuesday. We're going to have to ask you to have a little patience; it'll be here soon.

In the meantime, we have had a forum update! Hopefully the forum will run a little smoother for everyone. Try to find some peace in that.

Yes, I'm to blame for it, but it really is for the good of the forum.

Closed Villages Opened!

You read that right. Sound and Cloud are now open for new characters to be registered! While Snow village is still destroyed, you may make refugees from destroyed Yukigakure. In preparation for this, we have taken the liberty of rewriting some of the old, outdated lists. Come and take a look at Sound's new Strong Chakra Poison and Snow's new Ice Ninjutsu! Snow-nin are something of a special case, as they will all be considered rogue shinobi, but unlike regular missing-nin will not be hunted actively by their village. (For obvious reasons)

Yeah, I know that Global Ninjutsu was fairly recently touched up, but I've made several big/small changes to the list and I know that some characters will be affected. Some of these changes are being made in anticipation of other much larger changes to the system, too, but function perfectly fine even while we wait for those to get hammered out. A summary of changes:

-Henge, Chakra Hair Rope, Rooftile Shuriken, and Wall-Walking all have new scaling effects.
-Exploding Rooftile, Water Walking, and Manipulate Advancing Blades now no longer exist. The first two have been changed into scaling effects on Rooftile Shuriken and Wall-Walking respectively, and the third's capacity to throw many objects at once has been made part of Rooftile Shuriken's base effect explicitly.
-Air Walking is now Stage Four and may be taken at creation. Rasengan and Chidori are now both Stage Five.
-Chakra Hunting and Greater Elemental Hand have moved down in their stages, to lower stat requirements.
-Rasengan, Chidori, and Shadow Clone no longer require admin approval.
-Shadow Clone Shuriken no longer requires Shadow Clone.
-Several jutsu have had their effects rewritten for clarity, and most of them got a bit of a power boost in the process, too.

As usual, go ahead and post in the changes thread to get any necessary edits taken care of.
