OOC: Closed to Distortion; Giving Itaku Chizuru all of her swaps for this thread

Iwagakure... right next to Kusagakure. She flew there, just to spread her wings, to blow off some steam.

I need to test my strength... I need to know how strong I am. A kunai slipped back and forth between her fingers. She flew over the land like an eagle, surveying it all. From up high she could spot prey that moved about the rocky fields and huddled around the streams of water. The Phoenix always had wings -- she adapted from the prey to the predator.

She climbed the highest mountain she could see, without the use of chakra, just to be at this point. She had endured the toughest of weathers so that she could look down on everything with a projectile at hand. It was the feeling she assumed all influential people shared right before they died. Except they didn't have eyes like Chizuru.

You could look into the sky and see a large bird flapping its wings as it mills about in the sky. She needed to see just how strong she was. But more importantly she wanted to see the limits of her aim. She would rather tell the blunt truth than tell a tall tale. Hopefully her aim had the same morals as she.

How could you describe something as elegant as a Phoenix? Mortal perceptions could not spot a blimp on her radar. Her sight had been set on something higher... for now she was just toying with her power. Perfect!

A small camp was below her. Though still incredibly high up, she could see what seemed to be a shinobi camp. They would prove to be a formidable test. The single kunai was not just thrown from her hands but rocketed towards the small camp. She saw tents in a small square with each tent at a different point... at least 4 shinobi. Her kunai sped towards the location as though distance didn't matter. She waited for it to land... eight seconds later she saw the kunai stick in the very center of the shinobi camp.

Chizuru's aim was true. She hit the center of the four tents, as though she were putting a tiny dot in the middle of the square. She smiled... and then a large explosion lit up where she had marked the ground with her kunai. She saw no one flee, there were no survivors. They didn't need to live anyway. Everyone was better off dead. She continued to fly as her altitude slowly declined along the distance. Though able to see other birds in the sky she would have to land soon. The Phoenix was eternal but her wings were not.

Until then, she would continue the target practice.

As the Phoenix soared the skies, so did the Phantom haunt the land.

Yamakazi Jirou. His codename was the Phantom, a name he used in YARI assignments. Some YARI teams preferred such names over using their normal ones during jobs. Famous for being one of the chief analysts of Stone and manipulator of human assets. Practically rewrote the Stone interrogation protocols. He spent most of his free time in solitude, as opposed to the days where he would train endlessly and others when he would study endlessly. Most time he spent in contemplation. About what? About all sorts of things. Events. People. Events involving people.

And there he was on the rocky hill, clad in black clothing. He saw a shinobi camp some ways away. Likely on a scouting mission or something else. There were only four of them. But as if out of nowhere, he saw a figure in the air. From such a large distance, it was difficult to gauge what exactly it was. The most noticeable fact was it's large scarlet wings and speed. Just as fast it had appeared, an object cut straight into the middle of the camp and an explosion immediately followed. Crimson eyes narrowed and followed the thing as it began its descent. A hand pulled a grey mask with black markings from inside his cloak and put it on while the other quickly pulled his hood up.

A creature of some sort? Maybe, but likely not of this world. A shinobi? This wasn't ninjutsu identifiable by village, if so, then that might explain the hostility and abilities, but it would also mean Jirou was dealing with a formidable enemy. He stood up and observed what it would do next. But it was highly likely that anything that obliterates four shinobi without a thought would do the same to another.

He became tense and readied his mind in anticipation.

It was a woman.

"Hrmm, now... what to hit?" Chizuru mused to herself while enjoying the wind through her hair and the destruction left in her wake. She took in the sight of her destruction with a sinister smile and though she was more of the type who fought for what she believed in, today she believed in something else. Something a little bit darker than truth and justice. Today would be a day full of deception and punishment.

She wanted to punish everyone who got in her way and see just to what extent could she push her power. Though she was strong every ninja was vulnerable in some way, shape or form. Roaming the sides of a nearby village she planned to find her own vulnerability while exploiting others. There was already blood on her hands; there was no turning back.

For her, or for Jirou.

"Another fish out of water." she would try ninjutsu this time. Chizuru's handseals prompted a trio of steel birds to fly out of the very wings in which propelled her through the air.

As the birds emerged from her they spread out and began a very quick dive down towards the figure she had spotted looking at her from below.Should he try to evade the birds they would simply follow him for they had a mind of their own. If he were to attack them at long range they would most likely evade the attack. Their bodies were sharp like blades and they pierced just like one. She assumed they would just burrow into their target's brain and so did not pay her target much mind. Instead she enjoyed the lovely view.

The masked Stone jounin observed the threat intently. Visible pleasure? Possibly, hard to tell. He was a scholar of battle, and he made sure of it to study the art of handseals. What were their role? To specify the nature, function, and intent of the jutsu. He could only catch bits and pieces but her ninjutsu also solidified his thoughts. She was a shinobi, likely a missing-nin. Her jutsu? The split second before the handseals produced an idea of summoning, not just a weapon, something a little more complex. He suddenly saw three steel birds erupt from the back of her neck and begin speeding towards him. They were fast, not as fast as Jirou, but fast.

Their nature was to attack, this was a long-range assault and judging from the user's demeanor it was probably meant that Jirou was largely underestimated. Good, that could be used to his advantage. His hand slowly reached down to a holster on his hip and drew a kunai. His calves braced as the birds came closer, and before they could reach him, he would leap backwards, sending the kunai towards one of them. His hand rebounded off the ground and pulled another kunai out of the holster in midair, which he immediately threw at another. He continued putting more distance between the birds and him, it would take them a while to regain the speed that gravity had taken from them and the metal wings were probably not the lightest thing to have.

The downward dive and higher velocity that the birds would be coming coupled with his sudden change in position would mean they would have to slow down in order to readjust towards him. In order to do this, they would have to decrease speed and spread their wings to receive upward air resistance, which multiplied the chances of being hit and greatly decreased the birds' chances at dodging. But steel toys don't usually get that far.

Better safe then sorry, that's how Jirou believed.

He then quickly performed handseals and his chakra entered the ground, molding the stone, soil, and other sediments within to the shape that he desired, that of a falcon. Three falcons would take form which would proceed to attack the canary birds, and hopefully there would only be one left. If successfully defeating the steel menaces, they would take aerial maneuvers high up into the air.

The canaries dodged the projectiles being thrown at them by simply rolling to the side while continuing their downward descent. This meant that they continued to gain speed as the shinobi fought to keep them at bay. They all cut across the sky aiming at the Stone shinobi and Chizuru thought she had taken care of things. It wasn't until the man summoned a few birds of his own in his defense.

Is he copying me? Ew. I hate that. As the steel birds danced around with their earthly counterparts this gave Chizuru the chance to start a downward descent of her own. It seemed like this man wasn't going to go down like she expected, however that just meant that she had to try harder. She would have to actually use a jutsu that wasn't D-Rank. Or would she?

Fighting was about efficiency and nothing else. She would prove it today. The wings on Chizuru's back shrunk back as she began to trade her altitude for a boost in celerity. What then happened afterwards was simply ingenuity being mixed with raw talent. Chizuru began to spin very rapidly as her body aimed towards Jirei's.

Beyond the blur of her movements her handseals called for a mass of weapons to be ejected from her body very quickly in a large sphere which stretched about 20 meters in radius around Chizuru. Should Jirei not find an adequate solution to his problem the steel canaries would be the least of his problems.

Large blades, small blades, medium blades, and all blades rained down on the ground in an attempt to hit yet another target: her canaries didn't stand a chance and she thought the same about him.

Once the weapon summoning finished Chizuru's drill rotation stopped, the wings on her back had burned into ashes and fallen off, and she twisted out of the sky on top of a large hilly piece of rock where she could survey the land which was now bountiful with curved steel lodged into the dry earth.

"I should have known ..." she chuckled lightly, taking this fatal encounter as though it were simply a game.
