He cast a look towards Genta, then towards the men that he had attacked. Sudao knew that Genta would need his help, and to do that, he needed to get close to him. He had about four men left on his end, the majority not trained beyond what appeared to be that of genin or weak chuunin. He inhaled a sharp breath, tossed his sword into the air, and then leapt after it, forming hand seals the entire way up. He caught his sword, and with a flourish, did a kind of nose dive downward. Bright blue sapphiric veins of jewel lifted off his frame, particularly the ones coursing down his limbs. They connected along his gem, each lifting off, sharpened and poised.

As he began his descent downward, he outstretched each of the three veins, clashing his sword with a man directly below him. With a particular balance, he lashed out with one of the veins, stabbing the man below him in the eye as he whipped the other two around, controlled by chakra. They carved into the group of men that had just been below him, and in order to finish off the last one, one that had only had his limbs cut by the katana-like obstructions, he stepped behind him, and plunged his sword into the back of his neck.

He left the carnage, rushing straight for Genta, spinning around in another flourish. Upon his approach, he noticed the chuunin’s wound. He only hoped it wasn’t too deep as he moved to his defense, kicking a man in the chest and rebounding off his body, veins of jewel whipping around aggressively, slashing at any man who got to close. Sudao positioned himself to where the two faced opposite sides, where they could save the other from being flanked if they needed to. His three veins remained poised around his head like a cobra collar, sharpened and precise, albeit coated with blood. There was concern in his voice as he spoke.

“How bad did they stick you?”

Genta could not watch Sudao perform his amazing combat abilities at the time. He was focused with his arm starting to bleed. The chuunin bit his lower lip, mad at the fact that this was entirely preventable. He could have used his armor or found some other way to make the injury non-existent. Instead he had corned himself. The sounds of men dying behind him meant that at least he was a good decoy. Another flinch occurred as he tried to flex his arm. It was not too bad of an injury and luckily it just punctured the skin.

As he felt Sudao behind him he took a quiet breath, it was reassuring to have a jounin nearby. “It’s not too bad of an injury haha.” his laugh was emotionally muted. If they were sparring he would have been more relaxed. “You could say they’re to the point.” The chuunin tried to make light of the situation as he to look and see all the men around them. “I don’t think they’re that well trained, especially against shinobi.” Genta dropped his sword on the ground and quickly formed hand seals. Even time he moved his fingers his face gave off signs of pain, it was almost a relief when he finished all his seals. He then raised his hands in the air. They began to give off a bright light as his ancestors began to assist him. His green gauntlets appeared, protecting his hands from harm.

However that was not the point, the gauntlets were an extra burden of weight that were going to strain his arm. His opposition did not know that they, they were either looking away from his bright hands or getting blinded by them. Genta started another set of hand seals under the bright light as a set of six miniature spears started to rotate around him. Although they were small and ornate they took appearances that resembled the tool that hurt him. In a sense of petty revenge they all launched and targeted a man, piercing him over his body and launching him on the ground.

“Apologies Sudao, I’m not a subtle shinobi.” A few had taken steps back to get away from the light, as some were angry and began to run towards them in a fit of rage.

The dad joke earned an eye roll from Sudao who had somehow managed to stifle his laughter by turning his attention to more pressing matters at hand. He pushed off from the ground, reengaging in his deadly dance as the jewels sliced and cut through men like butter, his sword finishing those off who had merely lost limbs. He was surprised by their incompetency, but then again, he doubted a chuunin would have been assigned to a mission such as this if they were expected to go against anyone with real talent.

The two continued their frenzied dance for quite some time, slashing, hacking, spearing, ducking. Sudao’s arm inevitably found a kunai, but he was quick to remedy the situation with his own sword, leaving him with a light gash at best. Though the blood flowed freely, his movements were still painfully elegant, precise, and pristine. By the time the two had finished, they stood in a pool of blood and corpses. Just across from them, the men Sudao had protected with his water whips began to move to escape.

That’s when he heard the crackle of electricity.

Atop one of the burning buildings stood a man with bright blue hair and two yellow gems cemented in his chest. He let out a howl like a wolf as veins erupted across his body, and it was all Sudao could do to pool all of the whips together and fling the villagers inside the ring out of it before he fired off a bolt of electricity.

Genta found himself at a loss for words when him and Sudao began to re-engage their fight with these savages. The chuunin was moving stiffly, trying to avoid causing his arm any damage as he had to make sure he could keep it moving infront of the civilians. It was his job to reassure them that everything was going to be okay. But when he looked at the jounin he knew he could be dead on the floor and the people would still continue to feel safe.

It took Genta a lot of focus to continue his own combat as every time he saw Sudao move it felt like he was telling a story. He remembered the times he saw his mother practice her combat, able to swiftly move from one target to another. It was a nice change of pace until he heard someone yelling and then get stabbed. He had to remind himself that he never saw his mom actually kill people. Could murder look beautiful? His spear pierced another man through the chest, watching the life leave his eyes. That was not beautiful. “Crud…” he panted and started to catch his breath, placing his hands on his knees, before he knew it the battle was over. The civilians were rattled but most people would be after seeing this many bodies on the floor.

He gave Sudao a reassuring thumbs up, thinking of a joke about how savage that fight was and how...he couldn’t think well. He just wanted to take a nap. But he couldn’t. The hair on his arms began to rise up, not from some weird sense a spider would get when they sensed danger, but a change in the weather. Then he heard lightning. There’s not supposed to be thunder today. The only way that could happen is…

The chuunin looked up where Sudao was looking and saw the man, blue hair, two gems in plainly visible view “Oh come on!” he grunted loudly as he started to see the jounin ready himself and the citizens for another fight. “Just-” he stopped himself and lunged backwards from Sudao, he then quickly pointed his spear at the mystery man. Soon miniature spears appeared, intricate in their design but smaller and shot off, just like last time. He wanted to tell Sudao to get the people out and run, but that’s what caused problems in the first place. He always told the citizens to believe in the shinobi of stone, it was their job. Why did he have problems with it? Genta gave a quick glance and nod at his superior to try to tell him ‘I ain’t gonna run, I trust you.’ but he was not sure how to say that, so instead he gave an over exaggerated smile.

As the spears launched from such a distance, they lacked the precision to target with guaranteed accuracy. It would not matter regardless as the man saw it coming and jumped away to avoid the strikes, his veins turned yellow again, a loud cackle left his lips as he slammed his fist into the ground, soon the dirt began to splinter and ran towards the civilians and Sudao.

Genta couldn’t stop the ground from charging at the people. All he could do was instinctively throw his spear as if it were a heavy javelin at the man, anything to stop him from throwing out these weird jutsu. “Cloud Shinobi? Gem?” He was speaking his thoughts aloud, the chuunin was clearly rattled.

“Gem. PDC. I should have known.”

Sudao scowled from his position on the ground. His eyes skirted his surroundings swiftly, doing his best to work out a plan in a manner of seconds. He had always lived by the methodology of defense being the best offense, but in this case, when there were lives on the line other than his, all he had was offense. Kaori had always been his and Masami’s human shield, but this time, there was no Kaori, only him and a Konkaji. Rather than risk the chuunin’s life, Sudao risked his own, taking matters into his own hands as he rushed forward, to the sound of laughter from the man atop the nearby building. Genta's javelin was easily dodged, but his repositioning left him open to Sudao's own attack.

Taking his sword, the aristocrat flung it with all his might, sending it straight towards his foe while his own hands shot through a series of seals before an orb of water appeared next to him. It flew off like a curb ball, and as the man batted away the sword amidst his own hand seals, Sudao leaped towards him.

He soared through the air, shooting a quick glance back towards the civilians who were regaining their bearings, helping one another up, and beginning to flee on their own accord. He could only hope that they wouldn’t encounter anymore brigands or that maybe, just maybe, Genta would follow after them. Sudao wasn’t a fan of failing missions, and if it meant that he had to be bait, if he had to be a human shield, then so be it.

A bolt of lightning hit him midair, sending rippling pain through his body. He felt himself spasm, a burning sensation coming over his chest. He felt his breath leave him; his body was no longer in his own control. Yet as he fell, he heard the explosion.

His orb had found its mark. The top of the building crumbled, leaving the man to fall alongside the debris.

Panic. That’s what happens when something that you didn't expect to happen, happens. Genta panicked and split off with Sudao before, now with this Gem rebel appearing out of nowhere causing more disturbances the villagers began to panic. They began to run, away from the scene of action. That was fair. They were told to leave their village before a rebel attack and now during the midst of their evacuation there was an attack. They knew that, but the degree of the savages and their skills was something that not many people were expecting. As he saw the people leave he took a step towards them, he had to protect them, if more villains were around they would need a hero. But as he turned back to Sudao he saw lightning hit.

The chuunin gulped loudly as he saw his superior get hit with the bolt of lightning. He needed to protect him, it was obvious from the level in skill that if Sudao were to fall then Genta would easily get taken out and then the villagers-

‘They’llbefine! They’llbefine! They’llbefine!’ He was praying in his head as he started to run towards the jounin. He could save him or get some medical supplies. But the did not stop running even as he ran past his superior. The unknown man made a mistake-he began to fall off the building thanks to Sudao’s strategy and did not seem capable of landing safely.

The chuunin summoned his weapon back to his hands, reappearing as an axe. He knew he could not do a graceful swipe with his sword or an accurate pierce to his heart. Sparks appeared on the edge of the axe, it was warm, warmer, hot. All Genta saw was a body and he simply swung horizontally. THe blade clipping the man's body as the surface tension began to break around the man’s ribs. Every response in the Konkaji’s head said to close his eyes, but he kept them open, making sure the man could not retaliate.

Panic began to fill the savage’s eyes. With the final swinging of his hips the man was flung a couple meters away from the chuunin, blood on the blade and seeping out. If the blade cutting into him did not hurt than the sparks and intense heat did. He tried to get up but could barely move one of his legs. “What’s the matter?” Genta breathed heavily, barely able to keep his breath. “Shocked?” Maybe this was not the best time for a joke.

Shocked, dazed, and burned, Sudao could feel his avatar’s presence trying to overtake him.

You were foolish.

Otohime’s voice was cold, calculated even. Despite her attitude, the woman knelt next to her captor, gently stroking his face. Sudao had ignored her for most of the mission, but now he couldn’t shake her.

You forget that you’re the only one who matters. Get up, end this. Don’t let this mission be a stain on our record – you’ll never live it down. Can you imagine what Masami and Kaori would say if they heard that you had to be saved by a measly chuunin?

Her words stirred the jounin back to his feet, who despite his injuries, still managed to walk. The bite of the electric shock still probed at his flesh and nerves; bits of burned flesh flaked off of him as he moved, and the stench of ozone mixed with his own charred scent, making him sick.

Still, he fought the urge to vomit and continued forward. Genta had followed up just as Sudao had hoped, but rather than kill the man with a clean blow, the chuunin let him linger. It was a dangerous gambit, and one that the jounin knew had the potential to end fatally. His hands knit together, forming seals once more. The blue veins that coated his body began to glow a bright blue as water began to spiral around his forearm and wrist.

Tapping his forehead, Sudao mustered up what chakra he could into his legs and leaped. He soared over Genta, stretching his feet outward and managing to twist his body so that he seemed to soar backwards, over the PDC. Despite a rather heavy, grandiose amount of blood pouring from the hole Genta put in him, his hands still wove through quick seals.

“Not him!” The jounin shouted, causing the man to look skyward as the shadow of Sudao passed over him. He let out a roar and prepared to fire off another bolt of electricity, but the aristocrat beat him to the punch.

A sharpened beam of water left Sudao’s now outstretched arm, piercing through the man’s head.

As Sudao went to land, he felt himself give out. What was supposed to be a neat landing ended in him skidding to a grinding halt before collapsing to his knees.

Genta’s heart was racing. Adrenaline pumping. Most shinobi deal with life or death situations and he has had his fair share but he always felt like he had an upper hand; a team of grand shinobi or maybe dealing with just a few wild animals. But today he dealt with a real struggle, not knowing what was going to happen at the end of day. As he saw Sudao hit the ground and the dead body next to him let out its last breath, the chuunin tried to get up and steady himself. He was forgetting something but he was not sure.

With each step he took it felt like ever part of his body was aching, every nerve just frantically calling for his attention, but he had to make sure- “Oh shit.” just as he reached sudao to check up on him he totally remembered that he was actually here to help other people. Genta began to look around and remembered which direction they ran off to. “I gotta- fuck. Uh sorry I said that I’ll be back trynottodiepleasethanks” he began to run and chase the villagers. Surely they were okay.

After what seemed like hours but was maybe a minute a two, the Konkaji found the members, circled around one of the bandits, dead. Looks like the angry mob went to town, feeling like they were in a kill or be killed scenario. “No one is dead? I mean, no one important.” he looked at the bandit “I don’t mean it like…” he shook his head and grinned. He could stop and take deep breaths, time to bring on the cheer! “Okay, everyone is good, I think it’s safe to say we’ll be heading out with Sudao as soon as he-” he blew a raspberry to himself and remembered that Sudao was being...flaky? Without a charge? Genta slapped himself as he realized what he was doing, no more combat for him, he was extremely scatterbrained. “Everyone follow me back, we are going to check up on my comrade.” He touched his comm unit, struggling to put it back on.

“Hey Sudao, can you hear me?” he asked but did not wait for a response. “I hate to be an ass but I’m gonna take the villagers to meet you up. If you can’t get up or anything that’s fine and just tell me, I can lead them out and you can follow us without them knowing you’re not in your best state. Looks like there are no hostiles anymore and most of the people here are okay outside of a few knicks and bruises.” He scratched his face “Sorry for being all useless and shit-I mean stuff, appreciate the help. If you want I got the morale situation here if you want to just rest up or whatever you do.” he nodded silently to himself as the townspeople began to follow. “I will get word out to our recon unit but for now everyone please just bring what is on your backs, at this point it might be bad juju to let greed fuck up your-I mean mess up your trip.”

Sacrifice, it seemed, wasn’t something that Sudao was used to. Nor something that he particularly enjoyed.

Despite his best attempts to stand, they were for naught. Between the burns and electric currents still causing his extremities to twitch, the jounin was spent. He couldn’t even force himself into a kneeling position; he kind of just sat there, panting with his eyes closed and trying to ignore the fact that his hair was standing on end and that his skin was flaking off. The sound of Genta’s voice ringing through his damaged communication unit was met with a groan, and Sudao, in an effort to maintain his composure, tried standing again.

Well, that didn’t work.

By shuffling his weight, Sudao wound up toppling over, landing on his back. Still dazed, everything the chuunin said to him sounded distant, foreign even. The whispers of concern from the locals recongregating rose to chatter, and the jounin found it rather difficult to discern Genta’s voice from theirs and the crackling static. From what he could make out, everyone was safe. He held up his end of the bargain – hopefully, Genta would have the sense to call for a backup escort over a secure line, but with the Yellow Jewel always eavesdropping…

If he could have shaken his head to clear it, he would have. No, now he had to focus on relaying orders back to Genta. Focusing the best he could, he willed his tongue and jaw to work together in the most G-rated way that he could.

GUH-OH.”

He let out another grunt for emphasis, content with laying on the ground. He watched a flock of buzzards swoop overhead, a few even landing now that the bloodbath was over. One met his eye and let out a squawk, inching towards him.

With any luck, he’d be capable of forming hand seals before he got eaten.

Genta was not the type to consider that being hit with electricity could cause your electric devices to malfunction. He held Sudao in high regard as well, considering the silence was just a way for someone to be like ‘I’m not gonna dignify that with an answer’. However, once his eyes saw the bird land on the jounin, his heart sank slightly as he pointed towards the townspeople. “Scouts are already on their way, please meet with them in that direction for the meet up point."

As the people left the chuunin jumped at the bird, although jump implied he had enough strength to leap, it was more of a frantic waving and flailing of both his arms and legs until the bird started to fly away. “Oh!” he totally blanked, thinking more about the villagers than for his coworker. “This is Genta! Requesting a scout with medical abilities...uhh the meeting point is…” He pulled out a kunai and a very small explosive tag. A simply toss in the air and a light pop was heard, followed by a cloud of smoke “Wherever the smoke is.”

Genta leaned his head over to the side of his communication unit and nodded. “Okay, the scouting unit has the villagers, they can’t see anymore hostiles and stuff. So I’ll wait here to make sure the birds don’t get ya.” he chuckled a bit, almost reaching out to pat the man on the back but holding back since he did not ant to cause any further harm. “I’ll get working on the report and stuff too. This kind of thing is great optics ya know. Shinobi saving hesitant villagers, bandits and bad guys causing a mess.” He let out a smile “It’s nice to help people every now and then.” As he started to get up, two more shinobi appeared, one quickly dropped his bag and inspecting the down Jounin. Genta looked over at Sudao, nodding a bit to himself and chuckling “Don’t worry next time I’ll take the zap attack!” Maybe it still was not a good time to make a joke.
