Default Silk Spun Golden

Silk Spun Golden.
Closed to Cayuga and Kibe.
"The Ruins of Oojorougumokai?" Etsuko stood stiffly in Jyushin Nagai's council room. It was just herself, Nagai, and two of his guards.

"Better known as The Ruins of the Golden Web Spider, yes." Nagai pushed a thin stack of papers across his desk, and Etsuko walked forward to pick them up. While she read, her leader continued to speak.

"I'll tell you here, this isn't my prerogative. Sakoshi's the one who wants to look into this. When I caught wind of it, I decided it was better to have someone who knew how to find the things they are looking for. The Mugenkugan is our best option." Etsuko knew better than that. Nagai wanted someone he could trust.

"Needless to say, you seem to be the best one to send out of the country lately. I believe Hakushouku Mukurou likes you most when you're outside of the Temple." The joking tone in Nagai's tone reminded Etsuko that he knew just how little the Hakushouku woman cared about her clan's leader. Still, she did care about the fame of her own name, and O-Tsukai Mukurou wanted to find The White Tiger even more than she did.

"And this man, Seyo Sengo?" Etsuko did not enjoy the profile she saw. Cloud knew only so much about Sound.

"Don't worry about Seyo. He's a cover, for the sake of diplomacy. The Naga could be a helpful ally. Don't get in his way, and he might help clear your own path."
~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The tunnel leading downwards, into the earth below the forest, did not seem particularly welcoming. In many ways, it seemed that feet hadn't walked down it for centuries. Looking over her shoulder, she looked out on the lake that she had somehow fallen into. She had learned how to walk on water long ago, but it had faltered here on Seirei no Shima.

Her hair still dripping, she looked over at Seyo Sengo. Moments before she had been pressing her handblade against his neck, because she had thought he was The White Tiger, her nuke-nin cousin. And now they were about to walk into a dank tunnel together, to find the secrets they were looking for.

With a wave of her hand, she flourished towards the entrance to Oojorougumokai.

"Age before beauty, right?" Etsuko's voice was humorless. She still didn't enjoy her Naga counterpart. But if she wanted to leave this place alive, she'd have to start trusting something. And there wasn't much around her that she could trust anymore.

The Ruins of Oojorougumokai? That was an interesting place if Sengo every saw one. The tripe it took for him to get here was something else, an amazing journey through monster, illusions, and temptation. But what actually brought him here? What was the real reason why?

"SENGO ! Get the hell up! You are leaving for a mysterious island." The crazier old Naga stated as he scared the young man from reading in his books.

"What island are you talking about?" Retorted Sengo in what seemed like an annoyed demeanor.

The Ruins of Oojorougumokai Was all the old man simple stated as a look of eureka struck the younger Naga.

"I remember reading about that. Didn't it belong to a Naga that was so heinous that he left Rice Country because he didnt think they were good enough? I read it somewhere among these books, I know I have. But me? Why and I going? Sengo responded with an excited tone.

"I need you to find something of mine....Something this son of a bitch stole...A scroll, that's all it is but it is of grave importance."

-----------------------

The tunnel was old and dusty, it seemed like not a single living thing walked down this path in centuries. Could the old Naga be that old? The thought ran across his mind,; it was something that was very much possible with the current technology. Placing his hands on the stone wall he got the chilling feeling of it being alive. It felt as if the walls were breathing and had a subtle heartbeat. This scared Sengo and as they continued they came upon the entrance of the cavern. Cryptic letters in golden color were etched all over it. Surely, a dead language, from the Lac that resided on the island. The proposition to enter the ruins was not met with such excitement. The thought of anything being down there, of a ten foot monster just jumping out and attacking them like that raptor was all too possible.

With a long exhale of air and a stern look at Etsuko, Sengo moved on into the ruins.

The main area they were currently in was massive, the ceiling was uphigher then he anticipated, from his standpoint it seemed like if the top was this high up they would have been able to see it from the outside, however, there was no sign of it. The walls were rustic and were lined with the golden language from the entrance. Spider webs, upon spider webs lined the corners of the room. The most interesting thing though would be that each web housed a golden spider; no larger than the size of his palm. Now that was a big spider, but Sengo was expecting worse.

As the two traveled through a single corridor illuminated by candles placed on the walls, it was obvious there was someone alive down here. Through a long stretch of walls, the duo came upon a statue. Made completely of gold it was erected about ten feet above their heads. It was a woman; a beautiful one, and it resembled the same woman that led them here.

"Ignorance before knowledge" Sengo combated the womans earlier statement as he motioned towards another door. Sengo didn't like to be the guinea pig. He liked to be the scientist.

Sure, she was more beautiful than the gaunt Sengo, but Etsuko scorned herself for her chiding remark. It was hard for her to garner any warmth for the Naga. She still had the creeping suspicion that she would be his next experiment if she didn't keep one keen eye on him.

The breeze within the tunnel that led into the ruins left Etsuko feeling watched. She didn't know what it could have been that had caused the rush of air, other than the fact that her opening the tunnel to the jungle had given decades of stale air a chance to escape. As she walked through the thin hallway that led into the large room with the golden letters, she found that the air tasted as stale as she had anticipated, and that she still endured the sensation that something knew she was there.

When she saw the illuminated candles, Etsuko stopped. She had expected this place to be deserted. Everything in the room, even the golden letters on the wall, felt old and unused. She was about to light a torch when she had realized that the candles were alit.

"Seyo," Etsuko stared at the familiar statue in the middle of the room. Things were becoming vague, but Etsuko could divine what the signs meant. "I don't think this place is safe."

The spiders in their webs on the ceiling didn't move, and their webs shimmered, as if the silk of their webs were made of gold. Against the damp backdrop of the dark gray cavern walls, the webs stuck out, overlapped with the strange symbols on the walls. Etsuko ran her hand over one of the very symbols and activated her Mugenkugan.

The doujutsu registered the chemical difference between the gold and the stony wall, but nothing strange seemed apparent. Etsuko wondered if this was a part of what Sakoshi had been looking for. Could this be schema?

Etsuko pulled out a rudimentary point-and-click camera while Sengo reached a door. With a small flash and a click, an image of the strange symbols was burned onto the disposable film while Etsuko rolled the film forward, ready for another picture. This was a part of the kit that Nagai had given to her, in the case that there were important pieces of information that she wouldn't be able to physically bring back on her own.

As she looked over at the man with his own snide remark, Etsuko remained unimpressed. The candles on the walls were certainly disconcerting, and as Etsuko kept her Mugenkugan active, she walked up to where Sengo stood by the door. She saw nothing hiding on the other side, nothing especially worth note in the scales of infra-red, or even the presence of another living soul.

"These eyes know more than you could perceive, Naga." Reaching where the knob on the door should be, Etsuko found nothing but the flat surface of the door and a small hole, not a keyhole, but a place where one could put three fingers into the other room and tug. A makeshift doorknob for someone who didn't need locks.

Etsuko stared up at Sengo and even as the golden wheels in her eyes spun, she still managed to look unimpressed.

"Why be scared of a door without a knob?"

Etsuko pushed inwards, and another breeze passed through her hair. Inside, the room was only dimly lit by three more candles stationed on a small round table with books spread open on it's surface. Each candle bore a wick that was threatening to die out. Who had enough candles to light this place for as long as it seemed to have been around?

What the candles lit, however, was something horrific in itself. A various assortment of jars, whose age could be read by the thick layer of dust, stood on three aisles of shelves, with scrolls and old tomes filling the places where the jars didn't. It looked hodgepodge and chaotically organized. What Etsuko stared hard at, however, were the items within the jars.

It was an exhibit of the macabre.

Some jars held what looked like rats, suspended in gel. The rats had what looked like various amounts of spider's legs protruding from it's belly. Others looked like they contained some sort of aqueous liquid and strange tumors of lifeless flesh, with what looked like four black orbs on them. They were shaped like the head of spiders. As Etsuko caught sight of a severed human hand with eight arachnid legs twitching in an empty jar, she found nausea overcome her and a taste of bile meet her tongue with a gag.

"Is..." The queasiness was overwhelming. The place smelled like a unique formula for formaldehyde. "Is this your people's work, Naga?"

The woman's witty remark was unheard as Sengo could only stare at the lustrous eyes of the Cloud shinobi. It was a wonderful sight to behold for a Naga, a Naga that was also a Honekaigi. Knowledge, exploration, and excitement were the kind of things Sengo lived for. AS the two continued to head through the door the thought of what this place was continued to race through his knowledgeable head. He didn't recognize the symbols, he had never seen golden spider, and once more they created golden silk. This place was a treasure trove of knowledge and Sengo would have to share it with someone that didn't seem to care. The kind of person that enjoyed to take pictures, like she was on a vacation.

The corridor was like the other but this one led Sengo to a table illuminated by three candles. The books were what really interested Sengo; he began to delve into its contents. They were interesting reads, the kinds of books that he was familiar with, however, he had never read these ones. They were wrapped in a fleshy tome and the words were a dark crimson. It was obvious that this book was not the kind of book he should be reading. Only sifting through the book he was intrigued by the talk of splicing, combining two or more animals together. The pictures also bore a resemblance to some work he had once seen but could not recall.

Suddenly, a voice rang out from the dark abyss, the cloud shinobi he was with seemed to have moved up ahead and had discovered something that Sengo completely ignored. Rows and rows of test tubes lined the makeshift book cases. Each jar had a different type of monstrous creation that resembled spiders. It seemed that wherever they were, it was not safe. Surely the tomes lining the case would release some secrets to the lab they had just stepped in but there was no time for such things. the thought that Naga did these sort of things almost took Sengo aback.

Sengo wasn't the one to use humans as his subjects, at least not kill them for his own gain by mutating them. He didn't mind the animal testing though. Wiping the dust from one of the jars revealed a fetus; a monkey that had eight arms. Each one of its hands ended on a piercing point. Suddenly, it moved and it forced Sengo to jump into the opposite wall.

"This is the work of Naga, Naga that might have lost their way. I know my brethren are a crazy bunch but I have never seen anything of this caliber. I was reading the books over there and it talked of splicing different animals. It seems, it's on human trials now." Sengo stated, referring to the human hand.

The two continued towards the inner sanctum of the lab and the glow of something caught Sengo eyes. Going to investigate the luminance he came upon a large test tube. Inside was a man. Spider arms sprawled out to its side. It was a skinny, pale man, eyes pitch black and it seemed like the body of a spider was holding fast to his back. Suddenly, the water began to bubble and the hand of the man clapped against the tube. The spider legs started to ram into the tube; out burst the monstrosity. Its eyes dead locked on the duo.

"Holy fuck" Sengo stated as he prepared his sword for the fight.

Etsuko's hand ran over the jar holding the hand with the eight attached limbs. Her Mugenkugan searched the hand for the classic signals that she knew. There were no symbols of life. No heat. No passing of ions, no electrical signals. It was a dead hand, with a dead spider's body attached.

"This is more than a way that is lost." Etsuko whispered. Breathing through her mouth was all she could do to avoid the growing sense of nausea. She could only feel the chill of the glass. Her eyes scanned the sides of tomes, looked through more cages and jars of abominations, until she heard Sengo's momentary exclamation.

Poking her head out from around the bookcase, she saw the monster in it's full vision. Counting it's arms, and it's feet, and it's four vicious-looking spider limbs, it was a humanoid arachnid. What took over Etsuko's senses the most, however, was the overwhelming stench that came from the liquid that was now spilling all across the floor of the twisted library. One of Etsuko's hands went straight to her nose, and the other searched her pouch for one of her hand blades.

Instead, she found her grip on the camera. Tugging it out, Etsuko flared her Magnetic Field, reaching out as far as she could with her chakra. The monster was hobbling slowly, stepping gracelessly out of it's broken man-sized jar. From it's skeletal mouth, a low gurgling sound entered the cavern. Etsuko couldn't tell from the way it's gray skin stuck hard against the bone whether the poor beast had once been man or woman. It was quite literally skin, bones and spider.

This is... Etsuko couldn't have imagined something so horrible. The stench only made it worse. Nagai should see this.

Etsuko pointed her camera forward, and pushed down on the button. A flash burst out again, and with a click, an image of Sengo's back and the horror lumbering towards them was sunk into the film. With the flash, however, the low gurgling sound was replaced by a vicious clucking sound, similar to the sound that a ratchet would make as it turned a bolt into place. The sound was angry, and it focused Etsuko's senses towards the creature's face.

It was no longer a lumbering creature, but had begun to move very quickly. Instead of teeth, it seemed this creature had a new jaw replacement. Two rows of fangs, one pointed up, the other pointed towards the floor with four larger fangs, moved and rubbed against one another, the source of the strange sound. Whatever creature it was, it had not enjoyed the flash of Etsuko's camera.

"Be careful, Sengo."

Before Etsuko could say anything, however, the creature lunged, it's fangs bared towards the frail Naga man.

"Flash", the sound of the camera behind Sengo had also startled him. Who in their right mind would be thinking about taking pictures of this thing? In fact who in their right mind would create such a monstrosity. It smelled of death and it seemed to have been spurred alive from the bloodlust it held deep in its heart. That is if this thing even had a heart. It seemed to be running on something other than anything that would be considered holy. Sengo was amazed at the creature, no doubt in that, but he wondered if he kept down the Path of Creation, would this be his future. It was a quick thought, the beast was heading straight for him, his mandible directed towards Sengo's neck.

Raising his sword, Sengo pushed himself forward with great speed it was nearly unseen. He was a blur in time, a skill his particular taijutsu was proficient in. Zero to Sixty in a second; this would be a good analogy to how quick he went. If it wasn't for Etsuko's eyes she would have probably been ignorant to the display of speed. Sengo had already landed safely behind the beast. A large gash could be found in his upper chest, right where the heart would have been. However, as the beast screamed in agony, tiny black and brown spiders started to sprout from the cavity Sengo had created. Unharmed by the attack it would seem Sengo had made things worse.

This was now getting way too out of hand and Sengo was hoping his female counterpart would be able to help in the situation. However, life of solitude still afforded him a tactician's mentality. Never giving the opponent a lead, Sengo went through a myriad of hand signs and out of the puff of the smoke he articicially created seven clones, identical to him stood by him as support.

This was going to be a challenge no doubt but with the roar of the creature beckoning the man that had cause him harm, Sengo was really looking for some help.

"How about you put down the camera and help me out a little bit?" Sengo stated as the creature stood its ground, a little confused of the now nine on one odds.

Etsuko slipped the camera away. A part of her was still shocked by the mere existence of the beast. It had been even more shocking than the raptor, or the strange white woman that had led them there. She watched Sengo sunder the spider creature's torso, and finally found her handblades in her pouch as the creature roared again. Etsuko moved up behind her Naga companion, and felt her Magnetic Field include the creature and the multiples of Sengo's body.

She fought back the dizzying headache from the stench and reached out with one hand, to meet the wall opposite where they had entered. The many copies of her companion left her disconcerted, but her Mugenkugan managed to look through to the beast with the eight appendages.

With her other hand, she pointed a finger at the body of the mutant. With a burst of tenketsu, a thin, dancing line of lightning shot out and slammed into one of the creature's humans arms. The successful impact caused the creature to erupt in an angry clicking sound, but behind the wall of Sengo clones, the creature couldn't direct it's rage properly. Instead, it simply lashed out, tearing through a clone of smoke.

Etsuko caught the glimpse of the monkey with the spider attached to it's back and caught her breath again.

Who could ever do these things?

Etsuko moved along the wall, hoping to flank the creature and give them a proper advantage in battle, but as her hand ran over the laboratory wall, she felt her hand push in against the wall, where there should have simply been stone. It was a panel that moved, and as soon as she had touched it, she knew she had sprung some sort of trap.

"Sen-"

With the sound of stone grating against the floor quickly, Etsuko's world spun as the secret door made contact with her body and forced her to spin with the revolving door. As quickly as she had pressed the button panel, she had left the laboratory. Where she was now, she had little idea. She turned around sharply, to bang on the stone wall, hoping to find the button that would let the door revolve back in the other direction, but there was nothing.

"-Go."

In her panic, she had failed to realize that she was in the dark now, and that her Mugenkugan could not see anything on the other side of the door. The only thing she could see was the cool blues coming off of the cold stone walls. She was in a room, somehow. She could see what waited for her in the darkness, but she scrambled to change that.

Wherever she was, the creature on the other side of the door would be the least of her problems. Her hand searched her pouch quickly for a match and a hand-torch, anything that would give her a light in the darkness.

Electric Spike Strike Used
The foundation of Magnetic Fist, in order to use Electric Spike Strike the user must hold up their hand in the direction they want the shot to go. Electricity sparks along their hand and shoots forward in a jagged arc from their hand toward the target. It may only reach as far as the user’s field, after which it dissipates into useless static at most.
Stage Three The jolt can cause a convulsion in the limb struck, deadening its nerves and rending it paralyzed for about two posts.

What was Sengo to do? His partner had disappeared into the face of the wall and was now nowhere to be seen. It seemed that Sengo would have to fight this monstrosity alone and only if he was able to properly kill the spider/human hybrid would he be able to continue his research into the discovery of new jutsu advancements. His Honekaigi jutsu would not be very effective in such an area like this, however, there had to be some sets of bones that he would be able to properly use. For now he would worry more about using a smokescreen to stop this monstrosity. Sifting through the required hand sign smoke began to billow out of every orifice of his body. Smoke jet streams began to rush out of his clothes openings as well.

Within mere seconds the cramped room was now completely engulfed in smoke and it seemed like Sero would now have the advantage. That was until the sound of the lumbering spider started to rush through the smoke. Its large physique could be seen as it closed in not more than two feet from Sengo. Luckily, he still had six other clones to distract the monster as he escaped.

Forcing the clones to distract the spider man while the real Sengo hid behind a bookcase was the only sound and logically thing he could do. The sound of the clones being defeated was reminiscent of a small thud. He counted five small thuds as he continued to hide. However, they had served their purpose. Thinking of what to do next Sengo was met with an unpleasant surprise. Liquid began to drip on Sengo's head. It was sticky, smelled of old corpses, and was greenish. Looking up Sengo was met with the black eyes of his opponent. The simple fear that this monster could see him was enough for Sengo to freeze. It seemed like Sengo would be done for if he had not created his clones earlier. Right before he was about to be impaled by one of the many arms of the beast his clone came to the rescue. It was the last and seventh clone he had created earlier.

Jumping on the monster it gave Sengo a moment of freedom and using it he ran, however, before running to another hiding spot he threw a few kunai into the monsters face. Not aware if they landed or not was not of importance to him; the only thing he needed was a new hiding place. Finding another book self in this fog was difficult to say the least, but it was probable. Luckily, Sengo had found another hiding spot and no more than two seconds after a small thud bellowed through the room. It seems that Sengo was now alone. The screams of the creature echoed, taunting the young Naga.

On the other side of the wall from the room of smoke, Etsuko was scrambling through her pouch for that matchbox she knew she had. If she had taken up some of her fellows' habit of smoking cigarettes, finding this would perhaps be much easier. The hurried process of her search resulted in a few of her shuriken clattering to the floor. As she gripped the matchbox in the dark, she realized that the sound of clattering projectiles sounded different here.

It was as if they were clattering against something delicate, a bright twang in her ears. With a swift movement, a match came alive, and she stared intently at the compact torch she had found before the matches. And then, as the cloth wrapped around the metal stick came to life with fire, and the match burned out at her fingertips, Etsuko finally had a chance to retrieve her shuriken.

What she saw when her fingers gripped the cold metal was yet another surprise. The floor upon which she stood was carved - no, forged - with gold inlay. The gold created obscure shapes, circles with rings of unreadable characters and lines bisecting some of the characters. The first circle she saw was only the size of a basketball, but it's intricacy was incredible. As she waved her torch around the floor and finally up into the room she occupied, she saw that she was in a large chamber, with three pillars of stone in the center, as if made to keep the ceiling up. At the other end was a door, yet another one without a doorknob, simply a hole to poke one's fingers through.

Yet, what commanded Etsuko's attention was the fact that there was no patch of stone that seemed to be free of the shimmering gold characters. She walked carefully, stepping in between characters. It was only about halfway to the door did she realize where she had seen some of the characters before.

This is schemae.

Nagai had only given her a thin file on what Sakoshi was hoping to find. Lost schema had been high up on the list. She had been told to look for scrolls, runes, maybe a platform of some kind. Etsuko had not been prepared for the thought that the schema would be a very essence of the architecture.

As she scanned the room, she saw similar patterns to the ones she had taken a picture of before. In the quiet of the room, she had withdrawn her camera, as if she had completely forgotten about Sengo and the creature on the other side of the wall. Due to the trick door, she could no longer hear or sense them. Instead, she had begun taking careful, foot-by-foot documentation of the alchemical chamber. Etsuko didn't have the mind to know whether these were notes, or equations, or even complete schema. She didn't even know what was meany by complete schema.

Still, Etsuko had seen many things in war. As she stopped in the center of the room, in the epicenter between the three pillars, she recognized something. Anyone who lived through civil war would know what dried blood looked like. In the middle of a large circle of gold was the dried blue-black of blood. It seemed old, as it was just blood dust in between Etsuko's fingertips.

At that moment, Etsuko thought she heard something through the hole in the door. Her eyes snatched upwards, and it was then that she realized she had deactivated her Mugenkugan. The torch cast wild shadows on the walls, which glittered back with gold sparkles. How long had she been staring at runes? How many pictures had she taken?

"Sengo... Is that you?"

Nothing called back.

Something told her that the more she spent in this cavern, the more she would have to come face to face with things wild and unfamiliar.

Chakra began to rush into Sengo’s eyes, the barrier of fog became translucent. Sengo would now be at an advantage against the monster and it came at a perfect time. As Sengo looked at his surroundings he noticed the large monster rushing around wildly, knocking over anything that came into his path. It flung tables, the book shelves, and the glass tube test subjects. It was all in effort to find the young Naga that was luckily on the other side of the room. It was a scary situation and Sengo was unable to think of anything other than rushing in.

When the situation presented itself Sengo lunged at the monsters back with his blade forward. It pierced the spider body that was attached to the body and all the sudden the addition fell off. It left the human body hollow and bare; it seemed that the spider was using the human as a host. It was a horrendous site to see, the fangs of the spider left huge holes in the back of the lifeless corpse and as it curled up into a ball, Sengo knew it was defeated.

The fog began to dissipate to show the aftermath of the fight. It ended in an anti-climactic way but, Sengo was completely okay with the outcome. Sengo headed over to wall the young woman had disappeared into; its façade was well hidden. Sengo couldn’t exactly figure out where she had gone but for the time being he would look into the tomes that were littered around the area.

Sengo had come there to find a specific tome that his fellow Naga had been searching for. Also it seemed that the ruins were a home to a rogue Naga and much could be learned from just reading from their research. The table that he first settled at before the monster attack was still intact; its contents were still present

Sifting through the book he was originally reading revealed an image of what he had just fought. It also stated that the human corpse was only a puppet for the spider located on the back to use.

”That could have been helpful.” Sengo stated as a whisper started to come through the room.

It was a familiar sound, it was the sound of the woman that had brought them to the ruins. Taking the tomes and placing them in his bag he headed to where the sounds originated from; or at least where he thought they came from.
