As Sosu continued to watch the fight between the beast and Sento, he realized what kind of power he had on his side. HE had yet to meet someone from Kumogakure, but it was something he was alright with. Outside of the prophecy Sosu wasn’t sure if they would be friends or enemies.

As Sosu continued to walk Fuku appeared out of thin air.

”Fuku-san, where have you been? You could have helped us out a little bit. Anyways, besides that, lets get Sento and continue on our way. We need to find this shrine before its too late. I think we have spent enough time here.” Sosu stated as he began to yell out at Sento.

”Sento, finish it off. We need to get to the shrine.” Sosu yelled and stared back at Fuku in hopes he knew where they would need to go.

Using Tsugunai and Majinken in concert was hardly an accident. Sento could never be sure if that was luck or fate, but using a blade that hindered healing and another that supposedly craved blood was a particularly sinister combination that the one-eyed jounin rarely talked about. His strikes were nothing short of relentless, and he didn't show any sign of easing up as the beast fell.

The enraged Cloud shinobi leapt forward as the beast tried to crawl away, raising Majinken in his left hand and trying to drive is straight through the beast's shoulder, pinning it to the ground. With one knee in its back, he slipped Tsugunai's blade under the wolf's neck, slitting his throat without so much as a second thought or hesitation. He sat there for several moments, resisting Majinken's gentle urging to rip into it further.

As the life drained from it, Sento's physical form seemed to nornalize. The lightning around his body dissipated as his Celestial Gates closed. It wasn't a pretty win; Sento was covered in blood, some of it his own and he was taking heaving breaths as exhaustion and chakra strain settled in.

He glanced behind him. Sosu was still there. "...you good, kid?"

Sento didn't stand immediately. He wasn't completely sure his legs would hold him. He rarely used the Gates in rapid succession before, and he only had himself to blame for underestimating the threat. He swung Tsugunai outward, shaking the beast's blood off of the blade before sheathing it. He pulled Majinken fro the corpse next; any blood that stained the blade vanished within seconds. Sento didn't seem to notice, and he sheathed the blade without so much as a glance, as if it was nothing new.

"...you're late." Sento looked at Fuku. He wasn't angry or annoyed. It was simply a statement of fact and he was a little to spent to make anything more of it. He stood up, his right hand moving to his chest where three distinct puncture wounds showed through his shirt. He staggered forward a few steps before finding his balance. Even that didn't last long, though, and he sank to one knee, chest heaving from the combination of his own injuries and the black fog weighting on his lungs. "...give me a minute."

Fuku looked at Sosu with a blank expression, "I was exactly where I needed to be. This fight is yours, not mine."

As Sento killed the struggling beast, slicing open its neck with his blade, the final essence of it drained out there in the black forest. Then, even as he left it, the creature changed again. This time it wasn't a threat, more a revelation. The corpse of the monster was two corpses, that of a man that was bare but his own overgrowing body hair, and a wolf's head that was cut free from its body.

"I surely am not late," Fuku said to Sento, turning to face him. He looked at the shinobi's wounds, and then looked over to Sosu.

"With that creature defeated, you should be able to find the first shrine. It was always my suspicion that he kept it hidden, like his own presence among the darkness."

Even as he said so, he pointed in a direction, and a building could be seen peeking between the distant trees. It was wide and made of wood, the slanted rooftop had obvious holes. Before it there were two stumps sticking out of the dirt, like someone had built their own trees, and then they were fell by bolts of lightning.

"There, that should be it. Inside of there will be what you need to destroy."

As if there was some type of miasma that lifted from the area, there was something that seemed to jump through the forest and become visible to the three men. It seemed that Fuku was correct about the beast being able to hide the shrine and it looked like it was now time for the three of them to destroy the shrine and finish the mission that they were on. Besides, there was a possibility that they had to finish off the rest of the shrines, especially if the other teams were not as lucky as the two of them.

As Sosu continued to walk forward he wasn’t sure if both Sento and Fuku were following him. He would make his way inside and see what there was to see. He hoped that he didn’t have to go looking and when he saw what he needed to see they would destroy what they needed to destroy.

"See what happens when you make sacrifices for others?"

Sento's slower pace put him well behind Sosu and Fuku, and he could see Majinken's diminutive, non-corporeal form clearly. He was almost impossibly short, barely three feet tall, wearing a black suit and a red tie. He merely shook his head at the one-eyed swordsman, thumbing back at the pair.

"One false step and you'd have died. They probably wouldn't have even buried you. And for what? Nothing important was ever gained from helping others. I honestly don't understand why you continue to bother."

"...you wouldn't." Sento forced himself upright and into a march. The puncture wounds weren't particularly deep, and they'd mostly stopped bleeding on their own. It was another scar he'd have to explain to someone. Majinken's ghostly form shook his head as he passed.

"No one would think less of you if you abandoned this task." A female voice chimed in as he reached the shrine.

"I just... need a second..." Sento was talking to both the seen and unseen at that point, still catching his breath from everything that had happened. He could certainly see the cursed sword's point; Sosu was recklessly charging ahead with little regard for anything else. If Sento walked away now, both of them were as good as dead.

"Taking on other people's problems... that's what you do, eh nii-san?" The little red-haired apparition appeared behind the woman in the white dress, nodding with approval. "It'll be fine! Even if the whole world stands against you, you have us!"

He took a deep breath. And then another. The images faded, but their presences were still there. They were always there. His legs felt heavy and he felt like he'd run several miles; his shirt was covered with blood and sweat. It all felt oddly familiar. Kneeling near the shrine's entrance, he was content to wait.

As they got close enough, the building became more and more obvious. It seemed as if there used to be walls made of wood, but at some point they had been knocked over, or burned away by some other force. Now there was only rubble surrounding the little hut shrine building.

Before it was a water fountain, its basin filled with still and fetid water that was a murky grey. The shrine itself had two wooden doors, but one was broken and tilted to the side. A soft candle light was coming from within.

From outside it was possible to see the 'relic' within, sitting on a pedestal, covered in dancing candlelight. It looked like the skull of a wolf, carved out of other bone matter, colored a dark red reminiscent of blood. Smooth stones were in place of eyeballs. The whole sordid work was on display like a dark mirror of a true shrine.

"This place is evil," Fuku stated the obvious as he followed behind Sosu. He didn't pay much more than a glance back at Sento. Instead he was interested in what was going on around him.

"I have felt this, but never before seen it. It is much worse than I ever suspected." He nodded toward the center building, "That artifact in there, if it is destroyed, we can move on."

As Sosu got closer to their destination he could see their target. The skull was an interesting one and it resembled that of a wolf. Could it be that this skull was the skull of the wolf they had just fought? It wouldn’t be surprising to Sosu considering what he had been through. Walking up to the table he slammed his fist into the skull. It’s bone fragments jutted and jumped around the room.

Looking at Fuku, Sosu smiled.

”What’s next?

Sento wondered what this place looked like before the darkness claimed it. He'd heard why they were built in the first place, but seeing them in this kind of disrepair, swathed in mold and malice, was kind of sad in a way. Or, perhaps, it was his exhaustion talking. Either way, the one-eyed jounin pressed on, nose wrinkling a bit at the fountain.

The skull immediately struck him as odd. He could tell Majinken liked the aesthetic, which was equal cause for concern. "Hold on, you probably shouldn't j-"

The skull shattered. Sento stood there for a minute, dumbfounded. He closed his one good eye, took a deep sigh, and looked at Fuku. "...you sure you're not too close? Might have to do some heavy lifting at this distance..." His body ached as he reached for Ryuugamaru.

Just in case.

After the skull was destroyed, there was a heavy whoosh of power, as if a massive amount of chakra left the area all at once. There was a shifting, as if the whole forest was shifting to accommodate what they had done. Then that area of the forest felt... different.

"I think that did it," Fuku said, "What will come of it, I don't quite know. But this is only one. Do you intend to take out more of them?" He continues to look around, as if he expects some immediate results, but there are none. Just a feeling of the atmosphere shifting, as if a cold front is meeting hot air, but with chakra.

"If so, I can lead you toward another part of the forest, and you can continue what you started."
